Re: Bursitis and sugar: hip and shoulder bursitis
I learned so much more when I read (actually I listened to the audio version)"The Anti-Inflammation Zone:Reversing the Silent Epidemic That's Destroying Our Health"? by Barry Sears. He talks about EPA-DHA, a very refined high-dose fish oil with less toxins than the kind that you would buy at your local drugstore. He has another book called "The Omega Rx Zone : The Miracle of the New High-Dose Fish Oil". I haven't read that one, but I plan to.
I've been taking the EPA-DHA for a few months and there is an amazing differnce in my bursitis and IBS problems. I have very high hopes for the future with my continued use of this product, (not Sears brand, I took the brand that my chiropractor offers, Metagenics).while trying to mostly eat low glycemic foods, which I believe what Sears says, that it helps the high-dose fish oil work faster.
The way I understand it, EPA and DHA are the two components in the fish oil that are beneficial to us. Sears says that it takes 100 gallons of fish oil to make 1 gallon of EPA-DHA, so it is very concentrated and by removing the other elements, it cuts down on the toxins that may be in the fish oil. I was told to keep mine in the freezer. These are fairly new and there isn't a lot of them around, but I highly recommend the EPA-DHA supplement!
My chiropractor recommended 5-6 capsules per day of the Metagenics brand. I've recently switched to one called Pure Omega 3 Extra Strength made by PBL (Performance Biomedical Laboratories). I found them at Amazon.com. They are a little more potent and a little less expensive. I take 3 in the morning and 3 at night. Dr. Sears says that you can't take too much and makes reference to all the fish that is eaten in countries like Japan.
I can only say that it has helped my inflammation and wanted to share it in case anyone wanted to try it. The low
Sugar diet alone helped, but with the added EPA/DHA, I haven't been bothered with my hip pain in a long while. IOt did take 5-6 weeks to notice. Best wishes to you all.
