Re: I am so FURIOUS I have had a Mirena for 3 years now and Just found this site!!!!!
Well I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have found this forum! I thought I was losing my mind. I had my IUD fitted last May when I had a pollyp removed. My gynae gave me the info booklet to read, but other than that did not mention any side effects. He suggested the Mirena as I was a 40+ smoker and said that any other form of contraception would be risky. How I wish I had done more research!!!
I started searching on the net yesterday as I just continue to put on weight when I watch what I eat all the time. I have tried all sorts of dieting, am consulting a dietician (who I will be seeing for the second time later today having put on 2kg since my initial consultation and following her sensible eating plan). I for the first time in years have engaged in some physical exercise (for the last 4 to 5 months), but to no avail. I gave up smoking in August 2006 (3 months after having the IUD fitted!!) and kept attributing the steady weight gain to this. I have put on approximately 5 to 6kg's!
I in the past suffered from a mild form of adult
Acne and after having the IUD fitted this steadily worsened. When I went to see my Dermatologist he freaked saying the Gynae's know that the Mirena aggravates
Acne and could not believe the Gynae did not ask me if I have history of skin problems! So as a result I have been on Tetralysol, an
Antibiotic to keep my skin under control for nearly a year!
I have also been very moody and aggressive and at times felt my cup was half empty rather than in the past, always at least half full! Again I kept attributing this to my withdrawal of smoking. My entire family have noticed the difference and continually ask me if I am alright! My poor long suffering husband and daughter!
Lastly I have read how some people suffer from insomnia - I on the other hand constantly feel exhausted, listless and could just sleep. I wake up in the morning with disbelief when the alarm goes off at 6am having gone to sleep at 9.30pm - I feel I could sleep for another two hours. I am spending a living fortune on very expensive vitamins/minerals to try and give me energy.
Sssoooo, on finding this forum yesterday I immediately phoned my Gynae to have my IUD taken out - unfortunately he is fully booked until January, so have booked with a partner for the end of November.
The plus of the IUD for me has been no periods - however I look forward to getting back to normal as soon as possible.
