boy, thats a familiar sight. i have the same unit. i get the same yellow nasty liquid in the bottom. i do get a bit more hard remains than it looks like you do. could have something to do with you filtering first. the smell of mine is absolutely putrid. i dont even like to get any of it on me. i rinse it out first before i scrub it.

iodine might help, but i set mine out in the yard in glass bottles i got from buying organic cider in the hfs. the sun will keep bacteria or mold or anything from growing and the uv will also break down any of those volatile molecules that might piggyback in the steam. i dont taste anything in the fresh distilled or the yard water.

neither ozonating or Iodine can hurt anything. trust yourself.
