bizarre hearing loss

i have yet to figure out my hearing loss. i certainly expect to find an environment cause, but there does seem to be a congenital component.

the human hearing range is from 20Hz to 20kHz. it is most sensitive at 2-4kHz.

the human voice range is 500Hz to 2kHz.

my hearing has been tested and the loss i have is a bell curve basically starting and ending within the range of the human voice. it is not, according to the doctor, caused by noise damage. i can hear high frq and low freq. my loss peaks at about 1kHz. ask anyone who has tried to talk to me on the phone and i have people repeating things constantly. it is easier for me to hear women voices because they are higher. men, and especially men to mumble, will never get there message across to me verbally.

i feel like this situation has improved somewhat with my healing and cleansing. however, a lifetime of habit and strain has really got me behind the curve(pun intended). i can remember listening to FM radio as a preteen and straining to hear the words to my favorite songs so i could write them down. this always seemed incredibly hard to me. i would have to turn it up a lot. this in itself is interesting because FM naturally is boosts the mid range frequencies, especially in the early days(digital compensates for that now).

and it is not that i cannot detect the sound - i can. i got a pair of seimens in the ear state of the art hearing aids in the year 2000 and they cost $6000. they were digitally programmed to boost the same range of my loss. with all that technology, i could not understand people any better. the sound was still unintelligible, just louder. it was quite annoying.

any help or hints or tips with this would be greatly appreciated.
