My understanding is that eating refined sugars in the absence of the enzymes otherwise present in the foods in which they naturally occur will deplete chromium levels, necessary for insulin production in pancreas. Individuals consuming refined sugars will suffer depleted Cr. Fortunately, Cr, although a trace element, does occur widespread. It can be an issue, but hard for most people to figure out since the symptoms aren't taught to be readily associated with particular common symptoms, in the medical colleges.
