I'm reading an article on heavy metal toxicity-

which explains that some heavy metals are essential in trace amounts, while others are non essential. It lists chromium as a non-essential, and provides a link to a page on Chromium, which says that-

"Chromium is a mineral that becomes a part of the glucose tolerance factor (GTF). Chromium aids in insulin utilization and blood sugar control. By controlling blood sugar, chromium helps prevent the damage caused by glucose, which is called glycation. Chromium helps maintain normal cholesterol levels and improves high-density lipoprotein levels. Chromium is also important in building muscle and reducing obesity."

All that seems pretty essential to me. Was Chromium mistakenly listed as a non-essential? Or is there some other way to be sure your blood sugar is normal and all that good stuff?

When I sold Vitamins, I talked lots of people into taking chromium, because it was explained to me that chromium defeciency is one of the most common mineral deficiencies. It is needed by the pancreas. When people don't get enough, they are hypoglycemic and crave sugar. Chronic deficiency eventually leads to diabetes.

Many people got better from taking it. I had lots of repeat business. They thanked me because it reduced their sugar cravings. One didn't need as much insulin. Another person asked me if it was OK for her to double the recommended dose. She said it stopped her sugar cravings. The doctor was very pleased with her blood tests. He told her, "What ever you are doing, double it!"

I encouraged her to follow doctors orders and double the chromium.

Perhaps I don't understand what is meant by "essential"?
