Thank you sooooo much. I do use Bach Rescue Remedy with Elmo. I researched it, as one of the first vet options was to put him on a version of Birdie Prozac. Well, that was not an option I was willing to use, so two others came up. One, St. John's Wort and the other, Rescue Remedy. St. John's would be accumulative and much harder to regulate in his system. Rescue Remedy works great since I put 4 drops in a half cup of water and using a syringe type thingie, I am able to dose him real well as opposed to putting it just in his drinking water. I have a pretty good collection of the remedies if you intuit any other which may benefit him.
He came to us a rescue bird and is one of five large birds we have. He has been a challenge to convince that he is safe here since he came from a home where an embittered wife tossed him and two other birds out into the back yard in freezing weather with no food or water. Suffice it to say, the woman became an ex-wife and Elmo's owner arranged through our pet supply for us to take him where he could have a stable life. We had only had him a year when this episode happened and so that too is one of the reasons I feel the need to ask for help since he is an adopted bird who is loved but still sitting on the fence deciding if he wants to live or die.
Many blessings,
Zoe
