[MST: "People who are not truly filled with and led by the Holy Spirit seem to always find a way to develop bad and detrimental theology and if people are going to lose faith over someone not getting healed, rather than allowing Lord Jesus Himself to be their foundation and trusting Him fully every moment whether people get healed or not, it merely shows Spiritual immaturity on their part."]
Vek: Actually it makes sense though, that if people believe physical healing is in the atonement for this life, which is taught everywhere and almost every "healer" person I see teaches this, then why still have faith in God if the doesn't hold to his promises?
God has promised to save all those who believe in Jesus Christ for their salvation. That was for sure in the atonement. If he doesn't keep that promise, then we have adequate reason to lose our faith in him.
MST: The authority/anointing/gifting to heal the sick is real and is an instruction of the Lord regardless of any errors in theology people may have developed about it and regardless of how contageous any errors may have become to those who follow the Lord's instruction to do it. You are allowing your fixation on the details of theology to stand in your way of embracing a simple truth which is that whether healing is part of the atonement or not, the authority/anointing/gifting of those who believe to heal continues to be real and people are being instantly healed by the thousands this very day. Do you imagine that there were no errors in doctrinal thinking in the early church about healing?... and yet do you not believe that the healing itself was real then? We don't need to completely understand every finer doctrinal point about healing to know that it is real based on the abundant evidence... and we don't need to have perfect theology about it to follow the Lord's instructions about doing it. If you don't like the doctrine that says healing is a part of the atonement, i understand how you would want to oppose this specific idea. But why would this doctrine cause you to altogether reject the idea that "in the Lord's name, those who believe will heal the sick"? Why would this doctrine lead you to reject everything about believers praying healings today and to doubt the authenticity of every healing that gets prayed?
Vek: So if God has promised to physically heal in this life all those who put their faith in Jesus, as once again so many teach, but he doesn't keep this promise, then there is adequate reason to lose our faith in him.
MST: Another example of spiritual immaturity where people are allowing their theological suppositions to become more important to them than their foundation in Christ and in living relationship with Him. None of this changes the truth that healing by the Lord's followers is true for today. A false doctrinal idea about healing does not stop healing itself from being a part of the Lord's truth and a part of His instructions to the believer. Whether healing the sick is part of the atonement or not, it is an instruction the Lord provided to His followers... and if we genuinely want to fully surrender our lives to Him, it is an instruction we will delight in following.
Vek: But the question is, did God promise this in the atonement as all these people teach?
MST: if i allowed myself to get caught up in this finer point of theology, my concern is that it might derail me from simply being my Lord's disciple, abiding in Him and doing what He said to do just as it has derailed you. I try to stay focused on what is most important which is deep and abiding intimate loving personal relationship with Him. Healing may be part of the atonement somehow, some way, yet not be 100% realized in this imperfect world and it may not be. Truly this is not a riddle i need to solve and if necessary i can wait until the afterlife to find out. Either way, i simply follow the Lord's example and instructions and i keep on doing what He said to do and what He said those who believe would be doing which includes healing the sick.
Vek: Is physical healing for this life really in the atonement? It's an important question to get to the bottom of.
MST: What if you could never know the answer to this question? What would you do? Would the absense of having this definite answer be detrimental to your relationship with the Lord? Myself, i have decided i don't need to know this. While others will continue to debate this topic for a thousand years, i will just keep on loving my Lord Jesus and moving forward in this amazing living relationship with Him. And as a natural part of this born of Spirit new creation in Christ life, i will continue healing the sick just as the Lord said i would be doing.
Vek: If not, then this is a detrimental false teaching that is causing people to lose faith because people are concluding that God is not keeping his promises.
MST: Any false teaching about healing is a separate issue from healing itself being true and i would hope for your own sake that you can come to see this. i agree with you that some people are allowing themselves to get derailed by the finer points of theology here and that they shouldn't. I have met and encountered people who allow their theology to lead them to be angry at God for not doing something they feel He should have done and i do my best to help them to see that they are trying to bend Him to their will rather than surrendering to His. When people assume they know everything about Him and what is expected of Him based on the over reaching conclusions they have formulated by reading and misinterpreting their bible, this can cause big problems in the foundation of their relationship with Him and in the steadfastness of their faith.
But none of this changes the Lord's instructions to His followers to heal the sick and i would hope that you can come to a healthy place where you are able to see this and to separate the Lord's true teaching and true instructions from man's false doctrines about it... and to not allow anything to derail you from doing the Lord's will.
