Hey i got this seb derm a couple of years back, i surf all the time and found that this was really good for my red patches on my face where i get it. i now make sure I'm in the sea at LEAST once a day and spend as much time in the ocean as i can. i was using tea tree oil diluted in argan oil sparingly on my face to moisturise before work etc but ill try stopping this, see if it helps!? I've tried changing my diet loads cutting out starchy foods and sugar/ then the opposite etc nothing seems to affect it noticeably? what were you allergic too? thanks for posting this, given me hope i can get rid of this pain in my ass for GOOD!

Yes, I came across this same cure some time ago too. I agree with your analysis re oils in moisturizers etc being one of the chief causes of severe flare-ups.

Some other treatments I have found work effectively for me are:

Sodium Hypochlorite (sounds so brutal, but in diluted form it has never had a negative impact on my skin, and works a dream on my SD.

Alcohol based hand sanitizers. Agaun, sounds like these would be harsh, but they're not. The alcohol, I assume, kills the yeast.

Head and Shoulders CONDITIONER.

Hi I tried the dead Sea Salt s and it only made it much worse and I have oily skin , but there is Epsom Salts in there too , woukld they be a problem ? any thoughts? ....goin crazy here

My son has sd on his face. He is using baking soda diluted in water and has cleared his scalp but did not completely clear his face. He uses 1/2 teaspoon baking soda to 8 oz of warm water. Splashes on and let's set for 2 minutes then rinses off. Soom days are better than others.

don't know when you wrote this but read it last night when I was trying to find a solution to a trying problem with dermatitis on my scalp. Cortisone help a little bit but had to constantly apply it without a healing result. Tried coconut oil and nothing. Then I read your note last night. I use Celtic Sea Salt in place of table salt so after reading the above, made a solution of a strong warm water and Celtic Sea Salt mixure spraying it all over my scalp and ears where it has traveled to. This morning while I cannot say it has disappeared, it show the first sign in over a year of substantial improvement. I will use it day and night until it is under control.
Just wanted to thank you immensely for posting this message.

I have "experience" with for 30yrs. While I find your post very informing I must add a few things. You should not use the term cure, SD could be improved to the point of not being noticed at all but it will come back if you stop what you did to improve it. The most important thing is to not allow your face to be greasy, this means no creams of any kind. That's why water with salt works, because it cleans the oil while having anti germs action, not because it's a miracle cure. Even if you clean excess oil with hand sanitizer or green tea or water with vinegar/alcool/acetylsalicylic acid, you get the the same results.
So here are my solutions for SD:
1. NEVER allow your skin to be oily, clean it at least 3 times a day.
2. Do not allow the affected area to be in the sun, wear a hat.
3. Do not consume any sugar, if you must sweeten your drink use stevia, also try to stay away from gluten.
These 3 rules will make your SD retreat to the point that you think it's cured forever.... until you break the rules :)

First off, I want to thank Bulldancer for writing this and leading me to using the Aveeno Eczema lotion.

Second, I usually don't post things or like to share my 2 cents because different things work for different people. I like to educate myself (i.e. read a lot) , experiment, and see for myself what works for me.
Ive never had any kind of skin issues and around my 29th birthday I got a red spot on my chin. Low and behold after months of searching I self diagnosed myself with seb derm. I am now 30 and it took me a year of searching to find out what keeps my skin clear, itch, and 95% flake free. I think I can speak for almost everyone when I say Im going to live my life.. eat what I want...smoke if I want... do what I want. So needless to say I wasn't going to never eat gluten / Sugar again. Forget that.
Heres what I do. I've been doing this for about a month now and yes, it did take about a week of this regiment for my face to clear up. Raw honey and the Aveeno Eczema lotion. Get a small cup, a little honey in (you'll figure out how much honey you need to apply. It doesn't have to be dripping off your face), dilute with purified bottled water (10% water to the amount of honey that you put in the cup... just eyeball it...no it doesn't have to be exact), mix with your finger for a bit then apply to your face. Do this twice a day for about 30 mins and rinse with cool tap water. The key is to apply the Aveeno lotion after you pat your face dry. Apply sparingly because it does go a long way. I end up applying more in my beard area just to make sure it gets to my skin.
Now I wash my face with honey once a day and keep lotion on my face. Usually on apply the lotion once a day as well.

Good Luck. I haven't found anyone use this combination to treat their SD. But as far as Im concerned this is the best / easiest regimen out there. Im eating cake right now. Cheers!

I tried this because I was desperate, have had this for years but got really bead about 15 years ago and just kept getting glare ups, the cortisone creams worked at first but it is as if my body got used to them and they just stopped working, my condition would las for months before us would just go away but would be back within months, this was around my nose mostly( sides)
Thank you for posting this, I srnsed this made sense and I know that Sea Salt cures slmist anything on earth, it is s gift to mankind... But you are right, the Dead Sea Salt is the best one.
My flare up healed immediately but the little bumps kept comjng up for a few days, I read another post here that said not to give up, sometimes it gets worse without getting better, I believe it is just clearing the area and removing the yeast and it is a bit of a process, within a couple of days no more weeping blisters, within a week the swelling skin and over production of skin was drastically reduced, in two weeks a little bit of darker pigment, three weeks like I never had it, the scarring is almost gone...amazing, thank you... Thank you, I am a public figure, doctors never told me a thing about this
