Two New Studies Document Natural Breast Cancer Fighters
(NaturalNews) A couple of words strike enormous fear in the hearts of countless women: breast cancer. And it's no wonder. American Cancer Society (ACS) statistics reveal it's the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer. In fact, the ACS says a woman's chance of having invasive Breast Cancer some time during her life is about 1 in 8 and her chance of dying from the disease is about 1 in 35. However, there is a growing body of scientific evidence that natural substances are formidable weapons to both prevent Breast Cancer and halt its growth once cells are malignant. In fact, two new studies offer even more proof there are natural ways to fight breast cancer.
In research just published in the journal Crop Science, Colorado State University scientists studied the anti-cancer activity of six kinds of dry legumes: small red, great northern, navy, black, dark red and white kidney beans. Working with laboratory animals, they evaluated how the consumption of beans was related to breast, or mammary, cancer. The results? Consumption of every kind of bean reduced the incidence of cancer and tumor in the animals compared to the control group.
The rate of cancer was reduced significantly, from 95% in the control group to 67% in animals fed beans, and the average number of malignant tumors fell from 3.2 in the control group to 1.4 tumors per animal in the bean-fed group. In a statement for the media, the researchers noted that studies are ongoing at Colorado State University to investigate the mechanisms and molecules that contribute to these anticancer properties of legumes. In addition, clinical trials are also underway to find out if beans in the diets of humans have an impact on cancer incidence.
There's also good news about vitamin D and breast cancer. The vitamin already has been shown in hundreds of studies to have breast cancer-fighting properties and increased serum levels of the vitamin are associated with an improved diagnosis in women with breast cancer (http://www.naturalnews.com/025495.html). But now scientists at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ)-New Jersey Medical School have discovered how calcitrol, the active form of vitamin D, halts the growth of breast cancer cells. The study is published in the February issue of The Journal of Biological Chemistry.
Researcher Sylvia Chistakos, Ph.D., a professor of biochemistry UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, and colleague Puneet Dhawan, Ph.D., found calcitrol induces a tumor-suppressing protein that can stop the malignant cells in their tracks. "These results provide an important process in which the active form of vitamin D may work to reduce growth of breast cancer cells," Dr. Christakos said in a media statement.

(NaturalNews) Is it possible that wearing a bra can actually cause cancer? Studies show that this is a very real possibility. The reason is that regularly wearing a bra prevents lymph drainage and circulation, which can greatly increase the possibility of developing breast cancer.
The lymphatic and circulatory systems are responsible for both delivering vital nutrients and clearing out toxins. When the body does not have access to nutrients or when it is under the attack of toxins, cancer may develop.
A study published in the European Journal of Cancer studied factors for Breast Cancer such as breast size and handedness. They discovered that premenopausal women who do not wear bras are less than half as likely to get Breast Cancer that those who regularly wear a bra. A study conducted by researcher David Moth revealed that even the lightest bras place pressure on the lymphatic system.
Other research published in Chronobiology International in 2000 discovered that regular bra wearing decreases the production of melatonin, which is a potent natural antioxidant and the hormone that regulates sleep, boosts the immune system and, incredibly fights aging. Balanced melatonin levels are essential for the body to fight many types of cancer, including breast cancer.
Researchers Singer and Grismaijer observed 4,500 women and their bra wearing practices. An amazing 3 out of 4 women who wore their bras 24 hours per day developed breast cancer. Women who wore their bras more than 12 hours per day had a 1 in 7 chance of getting breast cancer. 1 out 152 women who wore their bra less than 12 hours a day got Breast Cancer and an incredibly low 1 out of 168 women who rarely or never wear a bra developed breast cancer.
These same researchers studied the indigenous populations of New Zealand and Australia. The Maoris, who are indigenous to New Zealand, are basically fully integrated into mainstream New Zealand life and interestingly have the same chances of developing breast cancer. The aboriginals of Australia on the other hand have not integrated into regular western society and do not regularly wear bras, and have practically no breast cancer. Japanese, Fijians, and many women from other cultures were found to have a significantly higher chance of developing breast cancer when they began wearing bras.
It may be interesting to note that a very small proportion of men do develop breast cancer, exactly the same amount as women who go braless!

Bras Shown to Cause Cancer
By Russell L. Blaylock, MD, CCN Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death in women worldwide and Breast Cancer rates are increasing rapidly. A compelling number of studies, though not all, have shown that free iron concentrations in breast tissue, especially the ductal tissue, is playing a major role in stimulating cancer development and eventual progression to aggressive, deadly cancers.1,2 Iron is needed for DNA replication in rapidly dividing cells.3 A recent report from the Department of Biomolecular Sciences in Urbino Italy, found that fluid taken from the nipple of cancer patients contained significantly higher levels of aluminum than did nipple fluid taken from women without breast cancer—approximately twice as much aluminum.4 A number of studies have found that extracting nipple fluid by a breast pump (in both premenopausal and postmenopausal women) is a simple way to study the microenvironment of the ductal tissue, the site of development of most breast cancers.5 Examining this ductal fluid is an excellent way to measure such things as iron levels, ferritin (an iron-binding protein), CRP (a measure of breast inflammation) and aluminum. The researchers also found that women with Breast Cancer had much higher levels of ferritin, an iron transport protein, in their breast fluid, which was 5X higher in women with breast cancer.6 This observation has been confirmed in other studies. In previous studies researchers found that one's intake of iron did not necessarily correlate with risk of breast cancer, but rather the release of iron from its protective proteins, such as ferritin and transferrin was critical.7 This distinction is very important and explains why some studies found no link between iron intake in the diet and Breast Cancer incidence.8 Over 90% of iron absorbed from your diet is normally bound to these protective proteins. Recent studies have shown that some things we do can cause too much of the iron to be released into surrounding tissues, and if this iron exists as free iron, it can trigger intense inflammation, free radical generation and lipid peroxidation. Bound iron is relatively harmless. So, what can cause these protective proteins to release their iron? One factor is an excessive alcohol intake. Studies by Lee et al have shown that women who drink greater than 20 grams of alcohol a day significantly increase the free iron in their breast tissue and have a higher incidence of invasive breast cancer—the most deadly form.9 It has also been shown that excessive estrogen can displace iron from its protective proteins, thus increasing free iron levels and associated breast cancer risk. 10 This helps explain the link between high estrogen levels and breast cancer. Of more importance than the total intake of iron is where the iron ends up that is absorbed from your food. As stated, most of it is bound to protective proteins, such as transferrin in the blood and ferritin within cells. If you have a lot of extra space within these proteins for binding iron, then a high dietary iron intake would be less harmful. Previously it was thought that a spillover of free iron occurred only when the protective proteins (tranferrin and ferritin) were fully saturated, as we see with the condition hemochromatosis. We now know that both aluminum and alcohol can displace the iron from its protective proteins, raising the level of harmful free iron, even when these protective proteins are not fully saturated with iron.9 If this occurs within the breast, as this study demonstrates, free iron levels in the breast ductal tissue can become dangerously high and over time induce malignant tumor formation. The question to be asked is--where did the aluminum come from? The authors of the paper suggested underarm antiperspirants as a possibility. But, there is another source that is becoming increasingly a problem and that is from vaccine adjuvants. Many inactivated vaccines contain aluminum salts to boost the immune reaction. Studies have shown that this aluminum is slowly dispersed all over the body and may be concentrated in breast ducts.11 The amount of aluminum in vaccines is tremendous, especially in such vaccines as the anthrax vaccine, hepatitis vaccine and tetanus vaccine. Since many American children are being exposed to multiple doses of aluminum containing vaccines by the time they are 6 years old, one would expect very high exposures to injected aluminum. A recent study by Lucija Tomljenovik and Chris Shaw found that a newborn receives a dose of aluminum that exceeds FDA safety limits (5mg/kg/day) for injected aluminum by 20-fold, and at 6 months of age a dose that was 50-fold higher than FDA safety limits.12 Aluminum at this young age will accumulate in various tissues and with new vaccine recommendations, children and young adults may be exposed to many more aluminum containing vaccines every year throughout life. With the ability of aluminum to displace iron from its protective proteins, we may not only see a dramatic increase in breast cancer, but also other iron-related diseases, such as liver degeneration, neurodegenerative disease, diabetes, heart failure and atherosclerosis.13 No one is addressing this very real danger. Superficially, the Budwig Diet seems more like a South Beach type of diet for losing weight. But there are strict guidelines within the Budwig diet that can make the difference between surviving cancer with renewed health or dying from the cancer. There are other dietary requirements that are part of her protocol. Lots of sunshine and stress management are also part of Johanna Budwig`s approach to healing the whole person.
How Johanna Budwig Derived Her Cancer Cure Diet
As a biochemist and physicist in the early 1950`s, Johanna was a senior scientist in the German Federal Health Office, comparable to the American FDA but perhaps with less corruption. Her task was to help determine what might be appropriate for cancer curing medication from German pharmaceutical companies.
A pharmaceutical company forwarded applications to her for a sulfhydryl group, which are proteins (amino acids) that contain sulfur. That company was considering applying the sulfhydryl group toward cancer medication. The data obtained from that company enabled Budwig to get an overview of the problems involved with oxygenating cancer cells through dietary means. Cancer cells cannot thrive in oxygen.
It was known in medical Science circles that sulfur from the sulfhydryl groups was present in all healthy tissues requiring oxygen that were healthy. And it was also known that somehow fats or fatty acids were involved in either enhancing or inhibiting that process of extracting oxygen from those sulfuric proteins and into cancer cells.
This was an area that the 1931 Nobel Prize winner Otto Warburg had hoped to resolve. He was the one who discovered that cancer cells thrive in an anaerobic environment, but could not survive in an oxygen rich environment. He was looking for a respiratory enzyme that would help oxygenate cancer cells.
Warburg was aware that fats had something to do with inhibiting or enhancing cellular oxygen absorption, but during his time fats were not classified with their biochemical structures and functions. It was around 1951 that Johanna Budwig discovered methods for determining the different properties of fatty acids.
As a result, she was funded to continue her research categorizing the different properties of fatty acids. Johanna examined the molecular properties of many fats, determining if they were saturated or unsaturated, if they were isolating linoleic acid or linolenic acid and if they inhibited or enhanced cellular oxygen absorption.
In 1952, Dr. Budwig submitted a paper on the results of her research: "It is basically proven that highly unsaturated fatty acids are the heretofore undiscovered decisive factor in respiratory enzyme function, i.e. constitute the second part of the `equation` that Nobelist Otto Warburg had been unable to find. What sounds insignificant to the layman`s ears, is arguably one of the greatest breakthroughs in medicinal science: from that moment onward we have known that the highly unsaturated fatty acid is the decisive factor achieving the desired effect of cellular respiratory stimulation". Johanna Budwig determined that organic cold pressed flaxseed oil was the most suitable fat to combine with an easy to eat protein-sulfur of quark/cottage cheese for the elusive respiratory enzyme. These two disparate foods were able to combine and create the oxygen within cancer cells for restoring normalcy.
The Budwig Diet was arrived at from extensive research, which was not even possible until her discoveries of how to determine the properties of fatty acids. Cottage cheese/quark with pure cold pressed flax oil for curing cancer is not merely a culinary quirk.
Johanna Budwig
She was born in 1908 and died in 2003 at the age of 95 from complications due to injuries after a fall in her home. As a result of her research from the 1950`s and on, she was nominated for the Alternative Nobel Prize, Europe`s one-up counterpart to the Swedish Nobel Prize, seven times.
Naturally, her successful treatment of many cancer patients, some of whom were terminal, led to professional envy in Germany. She was harassed through the German court system a couple of times, and both times the courts favored her! She proceeded to expand her knowledge and legitimacy by getting a doctorate in Natural Sciences to become a PhD Naturopath.
This broadened her understanding of how connected all living things are with bio-electrical energy and sunlight. She talks of how seeds that absorb the sun`s energy, such as flax seeds, connect with the human organism`s innate intelligence to convert bio-electric energy for its organic needs - thus the sunshine aspect of her therapy to connect with the flax oil consumption.
However, she considered herself blacklisted because she overtly and publicly opposed chemotherapy and radiation on cancer patients. She also didn`t make friends with cooking and salad oil manufacturers when she started exposing the terrible health consequences of using heated, chemically treated processed or hydrogenated oils that were being foisted on the public from the 1950`s on.

A look at data for over 1 million women in the UK indicates that drinking the acid alcohol -- even low amounts -- increases the risk of causing certain cancerous conditions in women.
According to the data released today, about 13 percent of the cancerous conditions of the breast, liver, rectum, and upper respiratory/gastrointestinal system may be related to using a alcohol, a strong acid that spoils healthy cells making them cancerous.
In their analysis of 1,280,296 middle-aged women from the so-called Million Women Study, Dr. Naomi E. Allen and colleagues from the University of Oxford found that 24 percent of participants reported no alcohol consumption. Women in the study who did drink alcohol consumed, on average, one drink per day. Very few drank three or more drinks per day.
During an average follow-up time of more than 7 years, 68,775 women were diagnosed with a cancerous condition.
As daily alcohol intake increased, so did the risks for cancerous conditions of the mouth and throat, esophagus, larynx (voicebox), rectum, liver, and breast, the researchers found. The risks were similar for women who drank acidic wine exclusively or other acidic beverages, like carbonated drinks.
The investigators calculate that for each additional acid drink of alcohol consumed regularly per day the excess number of cases per 1000 women up to age 75 was 11 for breast cancer, 1 for mouth and throat cancer, 1 for rectal cancer, and 0.7 each for malignancies of the esophagus, larynx, and liver.
The findings appear in the March 4th issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
In a related commentary, Dr. Michael S. Lauer and Dr. Paul Sorlie, from the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, wrote: "Despite its attractions, alcohol has been the proximate cause of a great deal of human misery, now with additional documentation by the elegant report of Allen et. al."
"Perhaps the complex story of alcohol," they add, "can be best summed up by what the great professor Albus Dumbledore said about truth in one of his conversations with his student Harry Potter: 'It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution'."
According to Dr. Robert O. Young, Director of Research at the pH Miracle Living Center, "cancer is acid and acid is cancer that can flow through the body fermenting and spoiling healthy cells. If you drink a glass of alcohol you are drinking a glass of cancer. Expect to eventually experience a cancerous condition in your body sooner or later, unless you suffer from a heart attack first."

It seems that both red and white wine are "equal acidic offenders" when it comes to increasing the risk of breast cancer, according to a study published today.
"We were interested in teasing out red wine's effects on Breast Cancer risk. There is reason to suspect that red wine might have beneficial effects based on previous studies of heart disease and prostate cancer," Dr. Polly Newcomb, of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, noted in a hospital statement.
"The general evidence is that alcohol consumption overall increases Breast Cancer risk, but the other studies made us wonder whether red wine might in fact have some positive value," she explained.
However, in their analysis, Newcomb's team found no difference between red or white wine in relation to Breast Cancer risk. "Neither appears to have any benefits," she said.
Among a large group of women with and without breast cancer, Newcomb and colleagues found that women who drank 14 or more acidic alcoholic drinks per week -- regardless of whether they drank red or white wine, liquor or beer -- faced a 24 percent increase in breast cancer compared with non-drinkers.
"If a woman drinks," Newcomb told Reuters Health, "she should do so in moderation -- no more than one drink per day. And if a woman chooses red wine, she should do so because she favors the taste, not because it may reduce her risk of breast cancer."
The findings are based on 6,327 women with breast cancer and 7,558 women matched for age who provided information about their drinking habits and other risk factors for breast cancer. The women, who were between 20 and 69 years old, were from Wisconsin, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
The frequency of alcohol consumption was similar in both groups, and equal proportions of women in both groups reported consuming red wine and white wine.
