Hello. Has anyone been so disabled with AF for a long time, that you applided for Disability?
I do know there is a medical code for Adrenal Insufficiency, and with info. provided from the doctor treating the AF ( which is a D.O. and naturopth ) I know the SSI board will only consider maybe a D.O. but I even wonder about this, as the SSI board can send one to a specialist, probably an endrocrinologist, at which I do not want to be under there care, as they don't believe in partial Addisons and also saliva testing, etc.
I really have not thought about this, as my husband does work. I used to do secretarial work for 28 years. But, the past 4 years, my AF has been so severe, that I can not commit to working outside the home, as I will feel only somewhat better for a period of time, than other days, I can barely walk and am light headed, memory impairment....get the picture.
I was just wanting to know if anyone here has tried for disability or if i should even try? WOuld sure love to hear from some of you on this matter.
I really thought I'd be better after the first year, as I did see 30% improvement, thinking I was on the road to recovery till 3 major trauma stressors set me back even further, indicating my adrenal reserves were still very low.
I don't want to apply for disability, but, it sure would help us from scrimping to get by each month. I guess am thinking too, if anything should ever happen to my husband, I'd need that income in the future.

This is a reply to # 2,011,476Hi Paulette, you really have seen to have tried everything. I am very unclear why you dont just go on hydrocortisone ? People with complete failure who have Addisons lead normal lives with normal life expectancy. President Kennedy had addisions and was on hydrocortisone, look what he achieved.
I just can't see how struggling like this is worth avoiding the side effects you perceive you going to get.
If you read " Safe uses of cortisol" it states clearly that there are no side effects at a sub clinical dose. That would be between 20 to 30 mg per day which is all you would need to possibly be able to function optimally again.
Hydrocortisone is a bio identital hormone, it mimics your bodies own hormones. Suzanne Summers has written a lot about this. It is not for everyone, but if you keep trying and can't come right without it you should certainly consider it to get the quality of life you deserve.
It would stablise you, clear your thoughts, enable you to work and then maybe start a mineral balancing program.

In Adelaide to get disability you have to have two conditions that have long term implications.I think a good doctor who is on your side makes all the difference because the application needs to be filled out by your doctor. It is worth checking out as some people seem to find success while others dont.

By the way Gavster if you had adrenal fatigue and you took hydrocortisone would it stabilise you?

This is a reply to # 2,011,547When my adrenal fatigue was really bad I did take hydrocortisone, in a few days it made a huge difference.
I had a problem with my liver where I wasn't making enough bile so I could not tolerate it after a while. When I had to stop I was devasted. I could have got my life back then and there.
A few years later my adrenals are much better, but so much time lost on my career and personal life.- Re: Disability lilarose

MoreThis is a reply to # 2,011,566Gavster...That is fascinating to me as I have had adrenal fatigue for a long time without knowing what it was. I then developed a colitis like pathology that was misdiagnosed as chrohns disease. Turns out it was a parasite misdiagnosed BUT the treatment for the 'Chrohns' was hydrocortisone. Now i gather it can cause more damage to adrenals long term and I am off it now but as soon as I started taking that stuff I felt like a miracle happened in my brain and body. Hypoglycemia went I slept all night anxiety reduced it was incredible. I too felt a sadness when I stopped it though it is not a good long term solution for adrenal fatigue. Anyway that explains why it had such an effect and as I weaned off it all the AF symptoms rushed back. Thanks for sharing Gavster

You have to go for something that they consider a real disease
You probably have more success going for fibromyalgia and/or chronic fatigue. Fibromyalgia now is definitely an "official" disease, recognized by the government, whereas adrenal fatigue is not. I wouldn't even mention it if I were you because they're going to write you off
You should contact a disability attorney in your area and talk to him or her about.

I applied for SSDI 3 years ago, and got it thanks to a good friend who coached me through each step. among other things she did tell me NOT to use a health condition that was not already well established & respected in the medical community. Sad but true. My disabilities have included chronic fatigue, agoraphobia, fibromyalgia and depression. You can use what you feel are "misdiagnoses" to your advantage.. because although you'll never find a doc to back up your claim of AF, insufficiency or any other malady WE know exists - you can ask these same providers youve seen in the past, to document what they found (from within the limitations of medical science) and by all means get yourself a good lawyer who specializes.. most do not make any money unless you win.- Re: Disability ring5100
