Hi,
I took the Spectracell test which checks your levels of vitamins, minerals, antioxidents, etc...It actually looks inside the cells to see what your levels are, what's actually getting in. Not just your blood levels. Something like that. Anyway, I was deficient in a few things, one being Zinc. My doctor wanted me to take up to 90mg. Which is quite a bit. But she also suspected I might of had a bit of plyoria which causes low zinc and b6. Anyway, Zinc made me feel really good. I was using a natural L-Optizinc which is zinc bound to natural methionine. Anyway, it did give me some nausea for a bit after taking it. I've been on that high dose for several months or more.
Then more recently I started to have a lot more nausea, and became very numb/groggy during the day. I take a variety of supplements, and nothing really changed other than I did start taking some Pharma-Gaba which seemed to work great for anxiety, but it could have made me also feel groggy/numb if I was taking too much. Not sure. So, I didn't take any during the day.
I've also been taking Magnesium Chloride for some time as I was also tested low in Magnesium. And this also made me feel really good. But then this also seemed to make me feel a bit groggy during the day.
I didn't know what was going on. All my anxiety and panic was gone. I had some stress, nervousness at times, but even that was very low. I think I was feeling pretty calm and normal and some of these calming supplements became too much. I was more than likely saturated and didn't need as much.
So, I stopped taking the zinc, backed off on the magnesium except for some at night, no pharma gaba except at night....The nausea/malaise feeling I had was gone. And the groggy numb feeling lifted. I did start taking 500mg of l-phenylalanine again, which may have helped.
Anyway, all this to say is that I needed zinc, and I took fairly high doses of it, then I think it became too much. And I required a break, (or at least a dosage decrease) then most likely a smaller dose to maintain levels moving forward.
I've only been off it for a few days. I took one 30mg cap tonight after dinner and became sleepy. I hear zinc can make some people sleepy. It's supposed to be calming. So, I think I'm just at a point where I've reach saturation, a good level in my blood and don't require higher dosages any more. I will be talking to my doctor about it again soon.
Anyone else feel sleepy after taking zinc? Feel nausea? It made me nauseated all the time. But I took it with food which helped but...
