Nobody is blaming the children for what they are fed, or allowed to feed themselves. It is the parents responsibility to make sure their children have a healthy diet.

In days gone by there was not the level of education about food that there is now, parents didn't know any better.

Parents today do know better, and have access to a great deal more information on what is healthy for children to eat.

I never allowed my son soda as he was growing up. He may have had the very occassionally one at a friend's party or whatever, but i discouraged it.

It was mainly a dental health issue. We did have proper food growing up, meat and two veg sort of meals, but we also had slabs of sticky toffee at weekends to share. I did not want my son to have the same dental issues i have.

I'm pleased to say, his teeth are great, no fillings.

You hear of people putting soda in baby bottles to give to toddlers. Shudder!!!!

Sorry I am a conservative in the sense that if you can't afford to feed your kid, you have no business having kids. It's mainly because of parent's laziness and there is no excuse for that. If the parents are too lazy to spend a few hours seeking an affordable alternative that is healthy (if the school programs suck)then again with the no business having kids. Seems harsh, but what is more harsh?...not having a kid if you can't afford it, and/or are too lazy to take care of it .. or .. having a kids and not being able to afford to feed them, and their only option is eating hor$e $hit food.

We have found that it is cheaper to eat healthy. You just have to seek out a good produce stand (or store) and an affordable way to get the rest of your groceries. We are border line poor too, so this isn't coming from someone who can afford to do whatever regardless of cost. It just takes work.

Talking about funding is pointless. Government spending is just f-in ridiculous. To think they would give hundreds of thousands to fund stupid research projects and millions to traffic signs or public transportation projects that don't work, aren't really needed, and wind up causing more problems rather than just spending it on bettering school food programs - all seem ass backwards. It's responsibility that needs to be talked about, not funding. First with the parents and then with the Government. Feet need to be held to the fire.

I support Jamie's food revolution. If nothing else it can get moms and dads to step up their game, take better care of their own kids, unite with other parents, and get the school to find a healthier way to feed kids. Not just using the funding excuse. If people really are concerned about it, then they need to rise to the challenge not continue to be dependent on government. Government can't care for you the way family, friends, and neighbors can.
