We are talking about the USA version. I saw it recently on uk tv. Jamie's new American food revolution. Huntingdon area?
I also saw the uk one that aired some time ago now. I think the food in the American schools was far worse though from what i remember of the uk programme.
The kids that bought lunch boxes, didn't even have a sandwich to eat, it was a complete junk lunch.
Meals were basically nuggets, fries, chocolate and strawberry milk etc. Nothing fresh whatsoever. They were getting Pizza for breakfast!! I think they got more of the same when they got home, so for growing kids the nutritional content was atrocious.
They are not looking for nutritious, they are looking for cheap. And with all the budget cuts in schools it is only going to get worse.
It's the parents responsibility, not the governments.
Many of the kids on on food programs paid for by the government because the parents cannot afford feeding their kids. So kids either go hungry at school or rely on free school lunch programs. Locally the percentage of kids on free lunch programs is something like 50%.
Sorry I am a conservative in the sense that if you can't afford to feed your kid, you have no business having kids.
So a family is making good money with a good job then the parent(s) are laid off suddenly. What are they supposed to do? Return the kids to where they go them? Right now our state has the highest unemployment rate in the nation. Most of those people did not choose to be unemployed, nor does this make them lazy. Things happen in life that are beyond our control. And I would rather see the kids eat the government supplied crap than to go hungry.
But the government keeps cutting money for schools, which the lunch program also gets hit. And why are school budgets being cut? So the government can waste money on projects such as "the bridge to nowhere", $700 hammers and toilet seats, multi billion dollar stealth planes that are picked up on every radar system in the world except in the US, etc. If you want to get upset why don't you get upset about how OUR money is being wasted to help big business instead of helping the people who own that money?
