I'm getting bulk powder of suma, jiaogulon, schisandra and ashwaganda to use for adrenal issues. What would be the proper range to take? I see in previous post, 3 times a day take the powder 20 minutes before meal, but I'm not sure how much of each is a effective amount.
The best way to take them is to blend them first. With those herbs I would do a blend of 4 ounces of the jiaogulan, 3 ounces of the schisandra, and one ounce each of the suma and ashwagandha. This will make a general all a round blend. If there is a lot of stress the the ashwagandha can be increased. Or if there are hormonal issues, COPD or cancer then I would up the suma.
Once blended the recommended dose would be the 1/2 teaspoon 3 times daily at least 20 minutes before meals.
Hv Does schisandra, ashwagandha or suma cause any drowsiness. Is it safe to take them at work?
Schisandra is more energizing, ashwagandha is calming, and suma is neutral. So you should have no problems as a blend. And as you build your adrenals your adrenal glands will help you to maintain a proper energy level.
You recommended to me 1oz of the schisandra not 3oz, just wondered why.
I don't recall your health issues so I am not sure. If you have a suspected autoimmune disorder this could be a reason.
Also 4oz of licorice and jiaogulan, 1oz suma, maca, schisandra and ashwagandha. I also added 1oz bee pollen and take amla in capsules.
Can you remind me which ones have high polysaccarides?
Schisandra and maca.
Originally i believe you said Suma was better than maca for endocrine, then it seemed most people were taking the jiaogulan for hormonal balance.
Suma has a more direct action on the hormones compared to maca and jiaogulan, which work by supporting the adrenals. The adrenals only become the primary source of hormones after natural or sugical menopause.
I only had 2oz of the jiaogulan so did not put 4oz in mix.
Can i take more of any of these herbs seperately, i did not put maca in my mix as i take seperate, about four caps a day. I would also like to take ashwagandha in higher dose for occassional anxiety sometimes.
Yes, that is fine.
Is taking any of these in higher doses detrimental?
Only the maca if you have an autoimmune condition.
I also want to heal the liver, and i believe schisandra is good, could i take this on back of tongue instead of the bitters?
Yes, just suck on the powder. It has a mild bitter component that will stimulate the bitter receptors.
Can't find the grape bitters here in uk, unless i ship them in from abroad. The swedish bitters only last 8 weeks as i get non alcohlic, and so it is wasteful, and i will not swallow because of the ingredients.
btw after that week or so of low temps, i've had a couple of days of decent afternoon temps, so probably was everything adjusting, and i did continue the herbs. Apparently fluctuations are not uncommon, and some people run a bit lower temp wise, but this confuses me, as i thought core body temp needed to be around 37c for enzymes to work and cells to function optimally.
You should see what mine used to average when I raced. I rode my bicycle down to donate blood once and when they took my temp it was 95F (35C). They checked it several times before deciding whether or not to declare me dead. I figured it had something to with my heavy training routine, which I later found to be true. So I started monitoring my temp at work and noticed that when I was active working, but not exercising I was averaging 95.2F (34.5C). Yet I remained healthy and alive. It just freaked people out along with the really low blood pressure and pulse.
The small amount you will be taking is not going to cause a problem.
hank you for responding Hv.
1/2 teaspoon is between 1.5 and 2.0 grams x 3 times a day 4.5 -6 grams per day. This seems to be lower then the dosage reccomendations I found searching online. Were you being conservative or Is it low because of a synergistic effect between them?
You will get a synergistic effect in blends, but I find that small frequent doses are more effective than single large doses.
Is there any beneifit or danger of using larger doses?
In some cases, but you also have to be careful with using some herbs such as lobelia and poke root.
Ashwaganda powder dosage alone was 4 -6 grams daily at a number of herb websites. Suma dosage was 500 to 1000mg twice a day. Shizandra 400-500 mg twice a day.
What if I added gotu kola for mental acquity? I saw in an earlier post you reccomended 2 caps 3 times a day.
Is gota kola okay to add to this group?
Yes, gotu kola is great for the brain, is high in B vitamins, and I also like it for stimulating collagen formation.
Also is there any concern of uneven dosing when blending? Like one day you get a low dose then a high dose the next etc.
Thanks
No problem.
