yogibunni,
I agree with you that there are plenty of alternative/successful ways to "fast" in order to lose weight: juice-fasting, and a mono diet, and so on; but it may have escaped your attention that this is in fact a "Water-Fast-Support Forum", and not a "diet-soda-fasting -forum", which includes the consumption of a known
carcinogen.......aspartame, (or anything else for that matter).

and other ingredients..................
"
citric acid , Maltodextrin, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Aspartame, Red 40, Acesulfame Potassium, Sodium Citrate, Potassium Citrate, Calcium Silicate, Magnesium Oxide. Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine".
Red 40 for example is derived from coal and has been linked to behavioral anomalies in children.
Magnesium oxides side effects include nausea and cramping; acting as a laxative, and where long-term use includes enteroliths causing bowel obstruction.
Are these really substances that we would like to ingest while the body is attempting to cleanse and heal itself, and therefore adding to toxicity when the body is trying to rid itself of toxemia?
There are other fasting forums here which are designed for posts such as these.
The "purist-bitching" does not disagree with fasting for weight loss, only that it is not the ideal method, for reasons I have explained in a previous post within this thread.
Shelton himself practiced water-fasting to aid his patients in losing weight, but this was not ideal because of the lowered state of metabolism. There have been numerous posts within this forum as to stagnated weight loss on a
Water Fast for this reason.
Also, if anything other than water is consumed, the body recognizes that it is on a calorie-restricted and malnourished diet, leading to malnutrition and potential starvation if maintained for a sufficient length of time.
Water-fasting does not allow this to happen...........

Your estimated 5% of people who fast for purely health reasons within this forum, is grossly underestimated.
