As most of you will know I am currently eating to lose weight, and I must admit I am getting a bit frustrated, because it feels as though it's taking forever, plus my descent rate has slowed, it's now almost as slow overall as when I was fasting.
So going back to the flying analogy, final touchdown seems ages away. But the good thing is even though I would love to land like a STOL aircraft does, my runway is of unlimited length.
The one thing I miss about fasting is the simplicity of it. You don't eat. Full stop. And it's easy to do. And the weight appears to fall off quickly, you can see it on the scale each day.
The bad things are that you have no control on a fast, it's not a powered descent and as soon as you stop fasting the weight will go on.
I thought about fasting again. However I am not really in such a bad position. The reason my descent rate has slowed is because I have been eaing too many olives (yum yum), nuts and potatoes, plus whatever other veggies happen to be on special offer at the local supermarket. I usually end up with a fridge full, then I have to eat them all before they go off. Plus I have been doing some social drinking, which contains empty calories.
So thinking about it, it doesn't really matter, as I am still losing altitude, that's the important thing. If I want to do a STOL descent I still have the manoeuvrability to push the stick forward a bit by going back to a stricter Eat to Live regime, and drinking water instead of beer, as I did for a year when fasting. I might try that after the Easter weekend, I'll see how I feel.
Fasting is tempting because the weight seems to comes off so quickly, but the penalties are no control and then you have to live with reduced metabolic rate, and there's that annoying weight gain at the end, that "up-draught" which makes your fasting descent somewhat turbulent.
It is tempting just to get an advance feel fo what it's like to be under BMI 25 (I am currently 26.5 versus 42 at the start of my descent) but I think I'll leave fasting for when I need it. That might be when I need a detox, or if I encounter an artificially high metabolic set point between where I am now and touchdown, or if I get ill. In the meantime I will probably just carry on as I am, with the odd grumble about it taking to long.
Fasting is a powerful tool to be respected. Mighty.Sun.Tzu made some very good points in the recent post titled continuous. I'll fast when I need to.
I was so surprised to read what you've achieved!! By reading your chart it seems you've already lost about 45 kg or 95 pounds.
Well, congratulations. You've done a great job. So, what do you have to grumble about? Of course it takes long to reach a perfect shape , but, having said that, are you sure you're still so overweight? Not to doub what you write, but I was just considering my partner. I've just tried to calculate his MBI and he's 29.3, which means overweight.
He's always done quite a lot of sport and he still plays basketball, despite his age (42) . So, I'd say he's a bit overweight, but it's not so evident. Plus, I like him as he is.
On the other hand there's me, with a BMI of 23.8/24, which is considered normal, but I 'm not at all happy with that. So, I wonder, is BMI a subjective matter or a matter of how perceive ourselves?
But if you want to loose more weight and be in control, why not try to water fast only one day a week, just to give a shake to your metabolism, instead of fasting for a longer period but with a higher risk of putting back on the weight once you break your fast?
Marieln, can a Vita-Mix chop ice cubes? I have bought so many blenders trying to find one that would handle chopping ice and have yet to find one that will hold up, they all break.

Hi Marie,
Wow, blasted and shredded ice sounds great to me, its what I've been trying for. Thanks for the link.
The thing that most caught my eye in the video is that she said the when blending greens the Vita-Mix ruptures the cell wall allowing nutrients to become more readily available to nourish the body. Simply chewing them cannot release all that amazing nutrition. I'll do a search on the cell wall aspect with blending verses chewing but it sounded good to me.
The other thing was when she added the pineapple she added the core too because the Vita-Mix will completely liquify it and the core contains the naturally occurring anti-inflammatory bromaline, don't know if thats spelled right.
I looked at all the customer reviews from everywhere that sells it and they all had 5 stars except one person gave it a 1 star because they thought it came with a 7 year warranty and it only came with a 3 year, the company responded saying when you register the machine they extend the warranty 4 more years so really thats no complaints at all which is great. Many customers have had their machines for way over the 7 years, I think one lady had had hers for 20 years. I'm going to go shopping for my Vita-Mix.
Thanks a million. Maybe I'll finally be able to get some kale in my diet and not even taste it!
Willow
Hi Marie :),
How much is it at costco? I believe i have seen it there, but i don't recall the price.
I have a very good food processor thanks, it does much the same as a Vita-Mix, it can grind up frozen rasberries and blueberries and make things like this:
And yes, I actually think Kale tastes OK, but just a few leaves. When cooked, I learned a trick, put lemon juice on it and it makes it taste sweet. But I like it with and without lemon juice.
I may knock the beer on the head for a while, will post about that in a minute. On thje raw spuds thing take a look at the comments here. It's hard to believe, but here is an edited selction containing most of the positive ones. There weren't really any negatives, just a chat about getting worms from eating them, which was said to be an "old wives tale":
How strange is that huh?
Pretty darn strange if you ask me. I have absolutely no desire to even try to eat raw potatoes YUCK!
Did you make that dish of raspberry and blueberry sorbet or is that just a picture you found? It looks yummy.
Wow, where have I been I completely missed that whole thread ha ha. Thanks I'll be trying that one, it looks so good it looks like something we shouldn't be eating! Ice cream substitute yeah, yeah!
