Common Sense Revisited - America at a New Crossroads
by Tony Isaacs Over two centuries ago, what would become our fledgling nation stood at a crossroads - poised to either submit to continued tyranny by an oppressive and unresponsive government or else bravely rise up and declare their freedom and refusal to continue to live under the thumbs of such a government. Today, a growing number of people believe we have arrived at a similar juncture and that the past provides an example for the future: Then a fellow named Thomas Paine published a pamphlet titled "Common Sense" with clear concise reasons why such tyranny should not be tolerated and why an uprising was inevitable. The first 50,000 copies sold out in a day. So did the second printing. An estimated 500,000 copies would be printed over the next few months and the vast majority of the 3 million people then residing in the 13 colonies read the pamphlet. The rest, as they say, was history as the groundswell reached a boiling point on July 2, when the Constitutional Congress unanimously voted for independence (with New York notably abstaining). On July 4th, the formal document was signed by 56 very courageous individuals. Today, we need more Thomas Paines and a few other good men like him as our freedoms and wealth have been stripped away at an ever increasing pace by a government which has long ago become unresponsive to serving the citizens and serves the moneyed elite with unconstitutional policy, laws, codes and decrees. As we see our freedoms sacrificed in the name of security and our wealth sacrificed to bail out those who created the financial crisis it should be abundantly clear that our government has become unresponsive to the citizens and long ago lost sight of the vision and intent of our founders. Our forefathers knew what to do - indeed they declared that it was both our right and our duty as patriotic citizens to oppose such tyranny: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government . . ." I believe that the time has come to alter or abolish that which has become a top down government that rules us instead of a bottom up government that serves us. We simply need a few good men to fan the fires of freedom like those courageous patriots and right thinkers of long ago and our own courage to match that of Patrick Henry when he said "Give me liberty, or give me death". Here are but a few of the examples of the thinking and courage of our founding patriots and free minded men from the past: "Man knows no master save Heaven, or those whom choice and common good ordain." - Thomas Paine from the cover of Common Sense. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place." - Bastiat "Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action." - George Washington "Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience, and are left to the common refuge which God hath provided for all men against force and violence." - Locke "A claim for equality of material position can be met only be a government with totalitarian powers . . .'Emergencies' have always been the pretext on which the safeguards of individual liberty have been eroded." - Frederich August von Hayek "Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority . . . And now that the legislators and do-gooders have so futilely inflicted so many systems upon society, may they finally end where they should have begun: May they reject all systems, and try liberty; for liberty is an acknowledgement of faith in God and His works." - Bastiat, The Law For those of us who cherish health freedom, a noted freedom lover of today gives us his words of wisdom about what should be our inherent right to address our personal health issues however we see fit: "Millions of Americans take dietary supplements every day, and the numbers are growing as the Baby Boom generation ages. More and more Americans understandably are frustrated with our government-controlled health care system. They have concluded that vitamins, minerals, and other supplements might help them stay healthy and less dependent on the system. They use supplements because they can buy them freely at stores and research them freely on the Internet, without government interference in the form of doctors, prescriptions, HMOs, and licenses. In other words, they use supplements because they are largely free to make their own choices, in stark contrast to the conventional medical system. But we live in an era of unbridled government regulation of both our personal lives and the economy, and Food and Drug Administration bureaucrats burn to regulate supplements in the same manner as prescription drugs. The health nannies insist that many dietary supplements are untested and unproven, and therefore dangerous. But the track record for FDA-approved drugs hardly inspires confidence. In fact, far more Americans have died using approved pharmaceuticals than supplements. Not every dietary supplement performs as claimed, but neither does every FDA drug." - Ron Paul As a new administration takes office promising "change" but demanding more and more sacrifice and planning more and bigger government programs and control, wealth redistribution, continuing to bail out the rich at the expense of the rest of the citizens, attempting to spend our way out of the problem that excess spending created in the first place, and likely greater restrictions on health freedom while promising to continue military interventionism and favoritism in the Mid-east that puts our country and citizens at risk of retaliation by zealots, these words echo from the past to remind us of the change we really need: "A government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have . . . The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases." - Thomas Jefferson "If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered." - Thomas Jefferson "The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is legal plunder to be indentified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay . . . If such law is not abolished immediately, it will spread: multiply and develop into a system." - Bastiat To be sure, the task at hand is not an easy one and it has been made more difficult by generations of brainwashing, anesthetizing and dumbing down the population with filtered news, televised diversions by government agencies and a controlled media who has created indifference, ignorance and a false sense of duty to obey government decree no matter whether right or wrong. However, those who think the task is too daunting should take heart in the words of another of our forefathers: "It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brushfires in people's minds." - Samuel Adams And, as a noted positive thinker of more recent vintage once said: "I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but I still can do something. I will not refuse to do the something I can do." - Helen Keller Though unable to hear herself, she gave us a message that should be heard and heeded by one and all. Even as the war against the tyranny of King George was being waged by the army of George Washington in Boston, in January 1776 two thirds of the representatives from the 13 American colonies were in favor of making peace and any declaration of Independence seemed unlikely.
Nice hatchet job Rudi, full of false accusations and venom. It is also an outrage that is an insult to me personally and to many others at CureZone. I can only guess that you want this to turn into a personal debate to make your stated desire to move it to another forum become a self fulfilling prophecy, instead of letting it receive the attention I think it deserves.
This is not about Ron Paul or me - though obviously the inclusion of a quote by Ron Paul (regarding freedom of access to health supplements) was all it took to send you off on another senseless tirade.
Ron Paul aside, thought that seems an impossibility with you, are we to understand that you reject all the words of our forefathers and other voices of liberty and wisdom in my article, Rudi? Like the Torries of old, there is no lack of sheeple who are willing to submit to an all powerful government, no matter how unresponsive and oppressive it may be. Similarly there are those who willingly embrace a nanny state which takes care of and controls them from cradle to grave at the expense of personal liberty which this nation was founded on.
Since you have chosen to once again bash Ron Paul, I once again have to ask you why it is that no other politician in Congress and no major black or other minority figure has labeled Ron Paul as a racist? Why is it that blacks and hispanics who have worked for or known Ron Paul personally rise to his defense and not a single one who know or work for him has condemned him?
Likewise, saying that it is time to take back our country and goverment is not a call for civil war or even a call for violence. It IS a call to return to the principles of our forefathers to have a government that serves the people and affords them unalienable rights in a constitutionally protected Republic form of government that insures equal rights and liberties for one and all.
It is a wake up call, not a call for arms, Rudi - and your example of people "letting" the FDA trample their rights is a perfect one. They let it happen because the system has become rigged in favor of the monied elite and no longer serves the common citizen first. And they let it happen because for generations they have been lied to and led to believe that the agency codes and arbitrary decisions like those at the FDA and other alphabet agencies are constitutional laws.
Why don't you ask mo123 about how much I hate Muslims? Or my personal black friend who is designing my new website how I have it in for blacks? Ask the black welfare guy here locally whom we give rides back and forth to town. Talk to the parents of the black and Hispanic soccer players I coached for fifteen years and see if any of them believe that I have a bullet for the heads of their sons and daughters who adored me. Ask all of the black youth I worked with as a volunteer at a drug and alcohol rehab program, who used to joke that I was a "nigga in white skin". Ask the founder and leader of that program, football legend Isiah Robertson. While you are at it, check in with my large group of Hispanic friends I visit with regularly and who join me on campouts at the lake.
Your fixation on Ron Paul is a sad sickness and spectacle for us at CureZone to watch, Rudi. All anyone has to do is merely put the name Ron Paul in a post and you come unglued and cast a negative vote no matter what the rest of the post contains. Maybe we should have a forum for Ron Paul hater(s) anonymous so you could get the help you obviously need.
And to think that I have written to you both publicly and privately asking you to reconsider your decision to leave CureZone. Maybe you should leave after all if this low and unwarranted personal attack is any indication of what your future contributions are going to be.

So, have you found that one single other congressperson, black, white, brown or otherwise or any major minority figure in the United States anywhere who has condemned Ron Paul as a racist yet, Rudi? Looks like to me it is a lonely world for you in more areas than just CureZone.

What total bullcrap, Rudi. Never have I uttered a word about a civil war. There is a great difference between a revolutionary movement to restore the principles, liberties and visions of our founders and a civil war. Our forefathers clearly declared that when a government becomes oppressive and no longer serves the common good then it is our patriotic duty to either alter it or replace it with a new government.
Are you a patriot who loves his country, Rudi, or are you someone who has been duped into being willing to stand by and watch our liberties and standards of living continue to be eroded for the sake of the monied elite and a false sense of security?
The article I wrote, which was basically a summation and review of a website calling for restoration of our Republic and our freedoms, was not about Ron Paul in the least. It merely contained a very good quote from Ron Paul about health freedom and access to dietary supplements. But the one quote was enough to set you to foaming at the mouth and making it about Ron Paul and your tired racism horse you insist on beating to death.
I am alone opposed to racism in a sea of polite racists but when Tony and his gang pull out their guns, I hope you or someone you love are not in their gunsights.
Still resorting to despicable slurs I see. It is a shame to see someone who professes to walk in the light and embrace love have so much darkness and hatred at their core. You are no lone voice of reason in a sea of white supremiscism, except in your own fixated mind, Rudi. Instead, you are a shrill voice who has let your mania phobia lead you to maliciously attack and slur other CureZone members .

I like to think of Rudi as the guy who selflessly went to the coast to help all the Hurricane victims, and the guy who embraces the motto on the Statue of Liberty for humanitarian reasons and not the one who has let his fixation with Ron Paul warp his judgement and cause so much hatred to be expressed towards other CZ members.
Those who know me know that I am one of the least prejudiced people around and they also know that I love our country deeply. What I do not love is what the leaders we trust to guide our country and serve us have done by selling out to serving monied interests and taking away our freedoms.
For the record, I abhor racism and all other forms of prejudice. I consider those who would discriminate, look down on and/or oppress anyone because of the color of their skin, their religion or their sexual preferences to be ignorant and twisted people. Though I do not hate them, I hate what they do and I pity them living such twisted, miserable and morally depraved lives.
