I just spoke with the Mayo Clinic that we've been corresponding with. They will do the tmau testing for $144.20. I have posted their specific instructions in my blog, http://mpdela.blogspot.com/2008/07/tmau-testing-with-mayo-clinic.html after I compiling all of it from our ongiong correspondence with them.
Things are looking up already!

Hi Cynthia,
I'm glad the whole process went through for you without a glitch.
It went so smooth that I wonder if having the Mayo Clinic form 'backing you up' or 'validating a possible metabolic condition' was actually helpful in ensuring the process would go through more smoothly than usual...
Did your doctor deny the existence of your odor, or was he more receptive to it and to the whole process in general?
I'm so glad for you. Now it's just wait and see, but you took the plunge and got tested, good for you! You're a brave lady :)

Mpdela,
Yes, I think you're right. The first time I went to see him about this I felt as though he kind of rushed me out the door. He's a very nice person but he probably knew what we were up against before having the Mayo clinic information. He wanted to send a blood sample also but I told him I didn' t think they would accept it.
My doctor didn't say if he smelled the odor. I wanted to ask him but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I figured he did smell it or he wouldn't have ordered the test. He did tell me he would prescribe the antibiotics 2-3 times a year if I needed it. I was so happy to finally get some kind of treatment for this disorder I almost started crying and that happens very rarely.
I feel like I owe you so much more than a thank you. I hope you and your husband had a wonderful time at the beach, that sounds so relaxing.
