Eating alot of fresh fruit is a good place to start. Drink water like the Water Cure says to.

Cut down on acid forming foods like meat and potatoes.

Get some pH tape from a health food store. Keep checking your urine and try to take in enough alkaline foods every day to keep the reading at 7 or above.

After awhile your saliva should get up to about 6.4

The longer you do this, the more stored acids your body will release. And your body will replace alkaline minerals to your bones and tissues.

I am like you I need something that is not complicated and works for me. It has to be be simple, because I won't keep it up. I am mainly a follower of Andreas Moritz since I could relate to his methods and already had looked into Ayurveda 20 years before. He does not write in his book much about alkalinity, except to use what I found under Dr.clark's forum.

I have ordered Water of Life from Water oz which has 80 minerals in it. So I have not tried it yet. Someone on the Moreless forum had mentioned that they did very well with Alka Seltzer, the Gold has no aspirin in it. I learned that from the Dr.Kelley's liverflush. I do use Celtic sesalt for minerals.

Because of my Ayurveda bodytype I can't eat a lot of fruit and grain. Learned that from someone on the cholesterol forum, who also had high cholesterol.
Read the messages from different posters because, as you found out, there are so many different protocols.
Read the whole threads to see what other people say, agree or do not agree.

Here is my recipe for the alkalizing drink I use, it is very nutrient dense, contains essential minerals, and is very cleansing to the liver and helps promote healthy flora in the colon. I have even fasted with this drink.

Hopinso's Tonic Drink

8-10 ounces distilled water ( or pure water of your choice)
1-2 tablespoons raw apple cider vinegar (start low and build up)
1 tablespoon sorghum (I now mix sorghum with Blackstrap molasses, but I hate the straight Blackstrap) You can use honey or Maple syrup
1 tablespoon green powder (I use Green Max Powder from http://www.swansonvitamins.com
pinch of Sea Salt (I use Redmond Real Salt)
pinch of Epsom Salt (optional)
pinch or two of cinnamon
2-10 drops cayenne tincture

This sounds somewhat complicated, but this drink is a miracle for me. I use a shaker bottle and shake it well and drink. You can also add the following if you think you need to:
fresh ground flax seed for Omega 3 EFAs
ground bee pollen for B-vitamins and minerals
MACA (to make you horny :)
fresh lemon juice
diluted calcium hydroxide-1 tablespoon pickling lime to a gallon of water, add one tablespoon of the diluted liquid to the drink
kelp powder (I prefer the pills)

Anyway you can adjust the basic drink to your needs. Maya (Invincible) writes how she offers her puppy a variety of natural supplemental foods and lets him choose what he wants, I pretty do the same thing myself, I mix the drink so it "feels" right. My two puppies love the drink and beg for a few drops, but then they also love dead rotten armadillo, so there's no accounting for their taste.
