I feel so sad and all alone, because some people's hearts are made of stone..
It’s hard to deal with depression, it’s so hard to cope, sometimes I feel like there’s no hope..
The people who hurt me and took away my pride, makes me want to run & hide..
Sometimes I feel suicidal when I feel really sad when things I deal with that are really bad..
I need good help to arrive one day that will take all my pain away..

This is a reply to # 958,475You have the heart of a poet (certainly not made of stone), it's not surprising that you would end up feeling uncomfortable in this world built on injustice, egotistical resentment of others, and corruption. I suffered 51 years of suicidal Depression (never any therapy, I outlived my dysfunctional family).
Probably the biggest mistake we make all of our lives is thinking that this world and life should make sense (be logical and rational). Peaceful coexistence (peace and harmony) is logical, evil is illogical, so how could this world make sense? But, I've also realized that life is not supposed to make sense,...if it did, all the excitement, suspense, and adventure of living life would disappear (go figure).
My dysfunctional family destroyed my pride (inferiority complex). I was alienated, demoralized, and couldn't believe that I'm supposed to enjoy life. On top of that, before I was 10, I realized that my parents weren't a match made in heaven. They seperated when I was 15 and divorced years later, but it was before I was 10 that my identity (self-realization) began to disappear. After that, all of my life, I felt that "something" in or about my life was "wrong". When I outlived everyone else in the family, I realized what that "something" was, I had no "roots", no identity because a real "family" (a stable family) never existed (no real feeling of SELF).
I never had a true sense of belonging (I always spoke of the human race as "THEY", as though I was not one of "they"). I looked up the statistics on children of divorced parents. Children of divorce very often have this problem "no roots/no identity (divorce or not, it's the unstable "dysfunctional" family that causes this alienation of the child,...as though we "don't belong") and suffer Depression into adulthood, late adulthood, and sometimes their whole life unless and until they realize and understand what caused their feeling of "not belonging".
Understanding SELF (who you really are) and "being" that person is what will free you of Depression (God's true name is "I am who I am", Exodus 3:14). I'm still not impressed with this world of corruption and injustice, but I'm not half as sad/depressed as I used to be (because I have a good sense of justice/right and wrong). I understand that I never would have been sad and gotten depressed if I were not a "thinker", conscientious, and had the "heart of a poet" and know love as a sentiment instead of just an emotion (sentimental ATTACHMENT to anything is bad, but knowing the SENTIMENT of love is not).
I know that you can understand every word and idea/concept that I have written,...because a "thinker" is INSIGHTFUL (because of your humility, I will not ask you to agree, but neither can you deny it).

This is a reply to # 960,286Feeling sad for no apparent reason is usually caused by an underlying biochemical imbalance affecting the production of serotonin. It is a mistake to believe that this can be treated by drugs because drugs only mask the symptoms of Depression leaving the biological abnormality to fester on and make things worse for most people. It is also a mistake to believe that the problem can overcome by logical arguments as in talk therapy. It is not a psychological disorder, but one of the body, that happens to affect the way the mind works!
Once you understand that the feel good neurotransmitters are produced in the body from nutritional forerunners - like tryptophan and the various vitamins and minerals - it is easy to understand that mood disorders are usually the result of a Nutritional Disorder.

I think the disagreement that hypoglcemia or any malfunction of the body can be THE cause of Depression is that some Depression is emotional/psychological (low self-esteem, stress, philosophical conscientious disappointment in society, etc.) or a mineral/enzyme/nutrient deficiency.
The world today can be very disappointing for someone with high morals and a good character. Very often, people will smile in your face and shake your hand, but when their Cell Phone rings, they'll dump you in a second (yet still CALL you friend). Many people will show a friendly, moral PERSONALITY and pretend to have the integrity of "friend", but really do not have a noble nature. Not everyone will be disappointed and become depressed by this (this would be emotional/philosophical depression) and cannot be addressed with medication/supplements ("professionals" don't care, they'll throw drugs at it and keep you as "money in the bank").
There is SOME Depression that is caused by nutrient deficiency/imbalance, but most is probably emotional/philosophical disappointment in everyday life/society ("friends"/aquaintances, etc.).
NEVER belittle TALK THERAPY, that kind of attitude is what causes most depression (Intelligentsia be damned).

Since stress can deplete minerals and other nutrients, supplementation of minerals CAN often be helpful, but sleep is probably the most important to all cases of depression. I've found that a simple addition of Sea Salt (more than six dozen minerals) is very helpful.

My 51 years of suicidal depression were not caused by a "biological abnormality", it was that this world (the PEOPLE) are so cold and INTELLECTUAL/clinical and chooses to "analyze" all the pains and sufferings of people as though it is a math problem (we are not formulas, we are human beings).
Keep your "professionalism", I'd rather be a human being.

This is a reply to # 1,008,846I know that if you had any good response to my post, jurplesman, you would write it. Some people choose to be "clinical" (empirically measured and defined), chemical and mathematical formulas and become textbook approved, that's their choice, but don't tell us that communication ("talk therapy") is less meaningful than the "professionals" right to make money (MUCH to the contrary, NO EXAGERRATION). Professionals often know ONLY what they learned from books and classrooms.
Like I said, it's everybody's right to be a philosophical zombie and be obedient to the professional world. The professionals convince society to have road rage or this syndrome or that disorder and society obeys in order to gain a "pat on the back". Then the professionals can buy a new pool or a new car, etc. A lot of people simply insist on being "approved" by professionals, but I've been on Curezone seven years and seen too many refugees (or what's left of them) come here because they were fortunate enough to survive the "professional" world (and I use the term "fortunate" loosely because some have even had many parts of their body removed, AND BY MISTAKE no less).
Curezone is based on what you call "talk therapy" (or haven't you noticed?).

I have'nt got a clue what you mean by "clinical" and "professionals" and operating from text books only. You seem to have some hang-ups about what you perceive to be authority figures, and no doubt you have placed me in such a position. The problem is yours not mine.
I am simply a person that has suffered from Depression and mental illness for most of my early part of my life (until 37 years I am now 80). Have been the victim of psychiatrists and their drugs, then studied psychology, which did not give me the answers I was looking for. Then I discovered the wonderful world of Nutritional Biochemistry and voila I was able to cure myself of this dreadful disease. I then became a psychotherapist for about 26 years in the Corrective Services Department (prison department) and applied my experiences, skills and knowledge to help other people who like me had fallen victim to the system as I had once.
The majority of prisoners languishing in jails are mentally ill (about 80 % of them) and out of sight from the public. There are very few people in the helping profession - people you hate so much - that believe in "rehabilitation" or "treatment", and those, who do and make money out of it, usually have no clue as to causes of mood disorders.
There are many studies to show that conventional treatment of mood disorders centering around drug and/or psychotherapy fails in the majority of cases. About 60 percent of patients are left with "treatment resistant depression" and their bodies poisoned by drugs. See:

My approach has been to look at the biochemical underpinnings of mood disorders most of which can be medically diagnosed by friendly "alternative" doctors or "nutritional doctors".
The belief in the "superiority of the mind over the body" is now bordering on religion among so-called professional therapists who should know better. Mental illness is not ALL IN THE MIND! When the body is sick it will produce a sick mind.
People appear to have problems accepting that MOST emotional disorders have a underlying metabolic disorder, interfering with neurotransmitters in the brain and causing people to have abnormal "psychological experiences". Drugs won't help, because they merely mask the symptoms of the illness, allowing the underlying disease to fester on under the guise of drugs.The symptoms of the biochemical disorders are mostly mistaken for causes, and so they have placed the cart before the horse. In fact psychoanalysis and ruminating about the past or analyzing the "subconscious" mind, can be very counterproductive and is absolutely of no use.
I am simply passing on my knowledge and skills to victims of the disease at no cost whatsoever. It is all self-help!!! It requires patients to educate themselves out of Depression by reading and studying. You cannot rely on psychiatrists and psychotherapists. You have to take responsibility for your own treatment.
I do not deny the importance of "psychological aspects" of mood disorders, but my motto is BIOCHEMISTRY BEFORE PSYCHOLOGY. I generally reject the idea that in order to heal we need to have an understanding of our childhood experiences on adult thinking. Change in one's personality can take place in the here-and-now regardless of a person's history. I did not need to have a "social history" of clients in order to help them. You may need a some knowledge of the "Scientific Method".

How can you have a graduate degree in nutrition when your undergrad degree is in psychology? Where did you get these degrees? I don't feel like disecting your theories point by point but they are not backed up by science.

Jurplesman said that he had become a "psychotherapist" in the correctional system, not a clinical psychologist. There is NO law that prevents someone from calling themselves a psychotherapist or therapist! Yep, your plumber can wake up one morning and decide he wants to be a psychotherapist, hang out a shingle and start seeing clients. A psychotherapist will not be able to collect third-party reimbursements (insurance), but there is nothing to stop them from calling themselves a "psychotherapist". I must say that I am dumbfounded, though, in how he was able to obtain employment with any Department of Corrections. Then again, they probably paid him considerably less than what they would have to pay for a clinical psychologist.
Also, a doctorate in clinical psychology also does not allow a person to claim the title of "clinical psychologist". They must have both the degree AND be licensed by whatever state they are practicing in after completely post-doc work and passing the boards. The degree allows them to use the title "Dr.", but they cannot use the title "clinical psychologist".

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,009,491Your argument is basically an ad hominem argument. You seem to be more interested in me, than what I have to say. It also means you cannot objectively debate the tenets of psychonutrtition. You must be very impressed with the titles and qualifications. You call that the fallacy of arguing from authoirity. These are only side issues. There is nothing to stop anybody visiting a Clinical Psychologist if you believe in them. If I would have been trained as a "Clinical Psychologist" I would not have been able to help people . If they were that good at treating mood disorders one would not have discussion boards like this. Do you believe this is a guarantee for success in treatment? I am more into Scientific Method. I am interested in actually helping people overcome mood disorders for those who are interested. Some of you are obviously not.

What argument are you referring to? My post was a reply to #86574 who had questioned you about being a clinical psychologist. My post was not a reflection of you and what you are doing...nor how successfully. I was simply providing factual information regarding the use of 'psychotherapist' and the title 'clinical psychologist' (at least in the US). No, I'm not impressed with titles and only signed '~licensed clinical psychologist' so that readers would understand that I have some knowledge of the distinction and between a psychotherapist and a clinical psychologist, and that a doctoral degree in psych does not make one a clinical psychologist. I've known some great psychotherapists and some lousy ones...same goes for clinical psychologists. Jeez, I even used my anonymous number for that post!
From someone that took issue with my post and stated, "You must be very impressed with the titles and qualifications."...you sure make it a point to let others know what your titles and qualifications are!

I am sorry if I misread or misunderstood the argument. I thought the ad hominem argument was directed at me. I prefer to talk about psychonutrition. People are entitled to know that I am not a Clinical Psychologist (thank god) just a humble psycho-nutritional therapist.
