Day 5 (part one)
A rough night again as the "mucus march" continues. Also, my ramblings about diet and fasting and the "five food groups" scam.

Around 8 pm I got another whopping sinus headache that still has not gone away as of this morning. I got up several times in the night to put my poor nose under some steaming water, and used my good old Neti pot a few times but it was tough going. The "mucus march" continues on. Yes, I know it's necessary to go through these times of discomfort and cleansing but it's no fun at all. Actually, I knew this part might be tough because I've had bad allergies all my life. At the age of seven, I had to begin drinking goat's milk because I was allergic to cow's milk. So this goes back a long ways. I used to get hellacious sore throats and colds too but those lessened when I completely stopped drinking milk and eating most dairy products (giving up ice cream is tough though).
Last night I was thinking again about how brainwashed we are regarding the foods we take into our bodies. The so-called "five food groups" and the supposed importance of eating lots of meat and dairy products were pushed on us as kids and it shows no signs of stopping. I think the five food groups pyramid was partially funded by cattle and dairy farmers. Gee, what a surprise! I saw the movie "Sicko" several weeks ago and loved it--the movie that is, not the sad stories of human suffering at the hands of our medical establishment.
I was reading a book called "From Soil to Psyche" by David Phillips last night. It's a book I picked up some twenty-plus years ago at a natural food store I used to work at. He talks about his 8 keys to long life: clean air, clean water, rest and relaxation, sunshine and shelter, mental balance and harmony, correct food, FASTING,
and exercise/activity. Makes good sense to me. I know that fasting and eating correctly are two big ones for me in order to have a clear mind. Another article I was reading talked about how meditation becomes easier on a long fast, because as our bodies cleanse, so does our mind. I've found that to be true and have been praying a lot and meditating when I can. It helps a great deal.
