Well, I'm officially on vacation, which is why I haven't written recently! There's so much more to do when I'm not at work (ha ha). I got my juicer over the weekend and some fresh fruits and veggies and started experimenting with some juice combinations. I don't have any recipes so many of my concoctions weren't very good. Saturday I had a jewelry show at a farm & art market in a nearby town and the girls who organized it were giving short nutritional classes, based on natural eating, juicing, and the like. there happened to be a lady there who has just opened a small natural foods / herbal shop in town and I talked to her quite a bit about juice fasting. She's a natural health consultant so she was able to make some recommendations and I decided to accomplish what I was after, maybe a cleanse would be the way to go - an overall body cleanout - instead of just a juice fast. I didn't want to lose any weight, in fact I just gained some weight when I quit smoking and finally felt I was at a healthy weight so I didn't want to stop eating and lose weight. I chose instead to get the Nature's Sunshine Clean Start Cleanse kit.

It was pretty expensive - I guess they all are really, but if you compare the cost to the alternative (which is poor health and illness) then it's worth the investment - I pay more than that for a single doctor's visit. I just started the cleanse yesterday. So far no major results, other than I already feel like I'm detoxing. I have had a lump in my throat/ear area for about a year, it feels like a swollen gland, I've been to 3 different types of doctors and all of them had a different "diagnosis" for me - I feel like it's clogged lymph glands or something - my nose is always stuffed on that side too, just that one side. Anyway, after my first 'dose' of the cleanse my nose started to run and my throat hurt worse and I was tired, but I'm really concerned about that area so I'm excited that the detoxing started so soon.

So, I guess I'll have to change the name of the blog since I'm not doing a juice fast :)

I'm going to continue juicing, I really like the freshness of the juice - it's not what you expect from years of drinking "fruit juice" - It's more like eating the raw fruit or veggie than the fruit juice. If anyone has any wonderful juicing recipes to share I would love to hear them. Oh, I also recently learned ginger root is spicy - the hard way - ha ha.
