Day 19
Short day, but here's some recipes for all you non-fasters.
Date: 3/20/2006 12:55:35 AM ( 18 y ) ... viewed 2393 times Today, I woke up at 10:00am, and didn't feel like waking up, so I dreamed for several hours longer, until 2:00 (I know, I'm a bum).
I woke up and continued to clean the house and do various things around the house. I only had a glass of orange juice when I arose, and a glass of apple juice around 9:00pm. I wasn't hungry otherwise.
I made dinner for my family tonight. They ranted and raved about it.
Usually, when I cook, they like it, but I don't get rants and raves. Everytime I've cooked for them while fasting, they've LOVED it. I guess I put a lot of love and energy into making it.
I didn't follow any recipes for the dinner (I rarely do) but I'll try and make one so all you non fasters can enjoy my cooking too!
Pork Chops, Ryan Style
Rub (all measurements are approximate):
- 1 TBS Garlic Powder
- 2 TBS Paprika
- 2 TBS Chili Powder
- 1/2 tsp cayanne
- 1 tsp mustard powder
- 2 tsp whole fennel seed
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 2 cloves of garlic
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup grade b maple syrup (or enough to cover the meat)
Mix all spices together and crush in a morter and pestel. This releases the flavor of the fennel seeds. Alternativly, you can blend or food process them.
Rub all over and into the pork steaks. (I used the steaks from our own grassfed pigs we raised.) Mash the garlic into the flesh. Add enough maple syrup to cover the meat. Let sit for at least a half hour.
Broil the chops in an oven with door open (alternativly you can grill on a gas or charcoal grill) for 4 minutes on one side. Turn over and broil for 4 more minutes. Keep alternating sides every 3 minutes until the pierced flesh runs clear juices.
Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
Ryan's Own Mashed Potatoes
- 2 lbs washed, peeled, and coarsly diced potatoes
- 6 TBS butter
- 3/4 cup cream, half and half, or milk (Cream is yummiest)
- 1/2 head of garlic (about 8-12 cloves)
Cover potatoes in large pot with water.
Bring to boil.
Reduce to a simmer and cook until a fork goes easily through them.
Drain.
Melt butter in the large empty pot.
Add the potates and mash.
Bring the cream to a boil in a separate small pot.
Whip the cream and mashed garlic into the mashed potatoes.
Enjoy.
(If the garlic taste is too strong, you can boil the garlic with the potatoes, and just mash them up with the potatoes.)
We also made homegrown artichokes and a fresh salad.
Disclaimer: This dinner is completly un-digestable as presented. Your body wil try to digest the meat with acid, and in doing so, it will not be able to digest the starches in the potatoes, because the enzymes needed to digest starches need an alkaline enviroment. I only make meals like these because my family is stubborn and hard headed, and they WANT their steak and potatoes. Your only hope would be to eat the meat alone, with vegetables, and have the potatoes separately.
