Insight into ancient divine practice of yoga

"What is the purpose of Hatha yoga? The purpose of Hatha Yoga is to raise the awareness. It is a technology to bring the apana and prana, the moon and sun powers, together to raise the consciousness through the central equilibrium line. In other words, its stated aim is to raise the Kundalini. That is the purpose of Hatha Yoga. The problem is that it takes about 22 years to raise it that way, even with perfect practice. That is the long method".

Yoga, as most people see it is simply Asana practice and maybe some groovy meditations. Kundalini as Yogiji taught it to us retains the integrity of the Hatha and Raja disciplines and tradition and Kundalini is spoken of as a Raja Yoga. Also, and perhaps this is a bit too mystical for many on the Group to "Grok". When one gives his/her all to a focus, you become the object of your focus. If you meditate on a diamond or a flower, you internalize those qualities. If you focus on a bowling ball, well.........
Tuning in with Ong Namo, Guru Dev Namo is the start. Without that a yoga practice can easily become about one's ego (one's limitations) and not the INFINITE.
A Sadhana is supposed to challenge you and then bring you a sense of your limitlessness.
Have you ever heard of Ashtanga, the Eight Stems of Yoga? (and I absolutely don't mean Ashtanga Yoga particularly ) Patanjali covered the Eight stems very well in the Sutras. There are several publications of the Sutras by Patanjali. This is absolutely essential reading for anyone
serious about a Yogic lifestyle in all it's richness.

The Eight Stems are
Yamas
Niyamas
Yogasanas
Pranayama
Pratyahara
Dharana
Dhyana
Samadhi

A reasonable explanation of each can be found at
