Jewish Renewal 101.

after the 24 hour Day of At ONE ment
exercises I did with the Jewish Folks
who include heavy duty Forgiveness
and Sin Let go acknowledgements
in their annual Cleansing fest.
The Catholics confess.
The Jews like to hang for 24 hours
in this Process.
It's good Medicine for the Soul,
but still reeks with lots of Paternalistic
Images of God the King who sits up on this
Thrown Passing Judgement.
Then are these horrific prayers and rituals
that are slowly being updated as the
Jewish Goddess/female Rabbi's slowly
make their mark In Judaism and reestablish
a better male-female balance that will eventually
be welcomed by mother earth.
I personally went to the edge during the Yiskor
service. This is the service when they pray
and connect with the departed Souls who are
no longer hanging in bodies.
i was dying on the vine during this service
that was in process as i entered the day long
sin release fest.
The Rabbi, a friend, comes out of the Conventional
Male Patriarchal Model. He has shifted a whole lot
over the years because he has regular sex with
a "Prophetess," as he called her, who happens to be his wife.
Lots of changes are happening within the Jewish Renewal Fold,
and this is a community of Jewish Renewalists called the Elijah Minyan
here is San Diego.
It was fascinating to watch the shifts coming on here.
The morning was one thing. the afternoon was
filled with female, circle type offerings. I was welcomed
in and called Holy Gardener, but that is Part Four.
When I came in, I almost died and went to hell
listening to the Rabbi reel off the TOP 40 Yom Kippur Hit
Prayers one after another with the congregants responding.
I mean this is a Rabbi who came
out of a Conventional Conservative background...the whole Shule
and all... (Shule=jewish lingo for Synagogue).
Then his ass was bounced by God out of that shule scene, and his
eventually started the Elijah Minyan. Many Jewish Renewal groups
call themselves Havura--or Chevra--this means family, or smaller
units, with lots of Hamish.. Hamish means family feeling.
"Minyan" is an old Jewish word. In other words, you had to have
ten penis embodied guys hanging together to Pray Covering their
heads with Yamulkas (beanie's covering the Crown Chakra)
for God to take notice.
The women were considered Holier than the men and did not
have to cover their heads. Please do not ask me to explain that
one. Over the years, the Women decided to wear the Beanies too,
and Prayer Shawls. Now there is a whole new fashion industry
of Tallis Makers. Go figure.
There are strong feminist and now Goddess elements in Jewish
Renewal. The stage is also getting set for Your Enchanted Gardener
to bring in the "How do we grow Eden" Right here and now message.
YES. YES.
There is lot of room in Jewish Renewal for "NON-Penis" couples to find
acceptance. i am being sarcastic...I have personally always been
offended by the words -- "NON Jews," or gentiles, as if the World
was defined as if there are two catagories...either you are Jewish
or NON.
Jewish Renewal is straigtening this all out. The trend is toward
Multi-cultural and multi-faith appreciation. This was underscored
by the Zeyde (grandfather of the Jewish Renewal Movement,. Reb
Zalman Schachter Salomi who also wears hats as a professor emeritus
at Naropa Institute in Boulder and formerly of Temple University.
He knows as much about other religions and most parishoners (sp?)
know about their own religion.
The book, "The Jew in the Lotus" is all about Reb Zalman hanging
with the Dalai Lama.
So back to love ground.
Here I was sittling in the Yom Kippur service next to the Prophetess
the Rabbi has sex with who happens to be one of my dearest friends.
She is also into Soul Memory work and now has people from all
around the country and world who come to study with her.
So the Rabbi sleeps with her on a regular basis, and she is just
about one of the Holiest, Loving, Constantly "Channeling" wifes
you would like to have in your bed. So here and there in the service
are all these new processes that are right out of the New Age scene.
One has to do with accepting the Wisdom of all the generations of
are ancestors. (I will get back on this one more accurately).
While I was listening to the Rabbi rattle off the TOP 40 Hits
that they shoved down my throat in childhood--I mean the really
scary prayers--I was sitting next to the Prophetess with my eyes
closed and a bit headachey.
My mind was filled with images of the hips of the woman
who rings my bell. I was thinking that she had something
that i deeply deeply needed...I needed to connect with her for my very
life and breath, and really didn't care a flying F--K to doing anything
else with my life right now.
This of course sounds pretty "needy," and there isn't a chance
in hell or heaven that she would ever connect with me if she gets
any slight 'wiff' that i am in one of my needy modes.
She has too much suppressed neediness herself, and she
does not like to look at that.
So here I am--feeling that the most critical thing--the thing I want
most in life to bring me back to life--is grounding with this woman.
i mean, i spend all this time flying around the cosmos on the upper
branches of the Tree of Life, and from time to time, I simple must
get laid to rest in the sopping, wet grounded, down to earth experience
that is often referred to as Making Love 101.

i am sitting here in the Shule listening to these Prayers.
With my eyes closed. The Rabbi and Congregants are doing this
Stand Up, sit down, fall on the ground routine, remember the dead
routine, and I am sitting there deep in trance realizing I am wanting
something i cannot have as if my life depends on it.
i mean, is there a Goddess in the Universe for me to ground in
with all this Male dominated Religion flying around the room?
So here I am getting more and more infantile
by the moment.
I am this pre-adolescent sitting here
wanting something from my mother for my survival...
No Woman, who also has unfinished business
with her one inner child is going to give that,
[unless of course, she accepts that she too
has many parts--all good, all lovable, all adorable}.
I mean, i felt like dying in the middle of this service.
They end with a Yiscor Prayer called the Kadish,
prayers for the Dead,
and i am dying.

part Three--The Earth Ritual--
taking about the Womb of the Mother Earth,
bringing worms to Shule,and receiving lots of hugs.
part four--breaking the fast ,
realizing i did good in coming home for Yom Kippur,
and connecting with some other women allies in my life.
