1715; to make a hairy place bald...
take dried cats dung.crush and mix with strong vinegar to a pap.
smear this on often, and rub it in firmly.
In a few days the hairy place will become bald.

1655: how to color the head or beard into a chestnut color
in half an hour.
Take one part of LEAD caleined with sulphur and one part
of quicke LIME. temper them somewhat with water.
Let it upon the haire, chafing it well in an let dry
one quarter of an houre or thereabouts. then wash the same off
with faire water divers times, and lastly with soape and water.
It will be a very NATURALL haire colour.
The longer it lyeth upon the haire, the browner it will groweth.

1655: to make hair grow thick
Take a good quantity of the roots of hyssop. burn them to ashes.
make a strong LYE, mingle them with ashes.
wash the head with it.
the ashes of goats dung mixed with oil will have the same effect.

1715: water of white melon to make the skin pure.
Take white melons whose skins are well cleaned.
cut these in pieces as thick as a finger.
throw away the middle part. then take of the following:
4 ounces ALLUM, 1 ounce QUICKSILVER, 1 ounce burnt ROCK ALLUM
2 ounces HOGS FAT, 1 lb TERPENTINE, 12 eggs crusted in their shells.
Lemon soup, as much as you like, 40 ounces SUGAR,
1 pint GOATSMILK, 1 pint white wine. put this all together in a glass.
distill this over a soft fire. IT IS MOST AGREEABLE TO WASH WITH.
