4 Common Skin Problems You Should Learn How to Solve

The skin is your body's outer protective coat. So it is constantly exposed to sunlight, infections, scrapes, cuts and harsh weather. The sweaty sessions during a daily exercise session can also put it under a lot of strain. To help you keep your skin in excellent condition, you need to be aware of these common skin problems and how to solve them.

1. Sunburn


Sunburn is a skin injury that occurs shortly after your skin is exposed to the ultra-violet rays of the sun. People who have darker skin do not usually have this condition because their skin contains more of a substance called melanin, which protects it from ultra-violet radiation. But fair skinned people can experience sunburn even in winter.

One of the best ways to deal with sunburn is to prevent it by using sunglasses, sunscreen and hats. But if you have fair skin, you will need to treat this condition a couple of times during the year. You can help your skin to heal itself by applying vitamin E twice a day. Simply cut a vitamine capsule and rub the the gel or oil unto your skin.

2. Acne


Many people think that pimples will stop showing up on their faces after puberty. But after the hormonal changes that take place in the teenage years, you can still have those ugly red spots due to stress, high humidity, heavy sweating and use of steroids. Breakouts may also occur due to poor nutrition, sloppy hygiene or excessive use of abrasive soap and facial cleansers.

In addition to seeing a physician for very serious cases, you can also use the over-the-counter acne solution Proactiv, which is a very effective treatment with a lot of good user reviews. You should also cut down on stress and ensure that you take antioxidants like vitamin C and E. 

3. Eczema


Severe cases of this itchy skin condition now affect over 15 million people in North America. If you have eczema, you should avoid scratching the affected area often. Scratching it will cause the skin to be exposed to more infection. The skin will eventually turn red, swollen and scaly. This could further cause loss of concentration during the day and inability to sleep at night.

To treat eczema effectively, you need to keep your skin moisturized to prevent severe outbreaks. Then apply topical cream like corticosteroid. Other popular methods of treating the condition include: applying anti-histimines, vitamin D, massage and phototherapy.

4. Athlete's Foot


If you wear running or walking shoes and do regular exercise, you are at risk of having althlete's foot. This infection also spreads rapidly in gyms and fitness centers. The infection usually begins in the space between your toes and later it may appear on toenails and on the sides of your foot. 

You can easily treat athlete's foot with over the counter medication like Lamisil AT which is more effective for this condition than most other anti-fungal creams. You should wash the affected foot twice daily and apply the cream. For severe cases, you will need to consult a doctor for prescription.
