"When you eat ... make a habit of chewing your food at length, because the glands in your mouth then introduce various beneficial elements into it. This action can be compared to a kind of ‘cooking’ that makes the food easier to assimilate. And if you chew your food until it liquefies, only a small amount of waste is left over, and you will benefit from a lot of energy even if you eat very little.
The same laws govern breathing. That is why, when you breathe, you must absorb the air slowly and deeply so that it can reach the base of your lungs in order to fill and expand them. And after having absorbed it, you must hold the air in, as if you were chewing it. The lungs could be said to chew air, just as the mouth chews food. The air you inhale is like a ‘mouthful’ of food filled with extraordinary energy, and in order to digest it properly, you must exhale very slowly." - Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov[5]*

March 20, 2020 - "The Rules of Nutrition Concern the Whole Human Being." -
"... The universal panacea is not a potion concocted by some alchemist or magician. To obtain it, you have to understand and love only what is divine and never let any impurities enter you. We do not only nourish ourselves on a physical level; we also nourish ourselves on the level of our thoughts and feelings. This is why our rules concerning nutrition apply to all three levels: eating pure foods but also ‘eating’ pure thoughts and pure feelings. The rules of nutrition concern the whole human being."[4]

"The matter that makes up the food we eat every day is given to us by the four elements – earth, water, air and fire. We are thus nourished by particles of matter that come from space, from the whole universe even. They come to us filled with cosmic life, and it is important for us to receive these particles with the awareness that they will make up the substance of our physical body and our psychic bodies. We must therefore be extremely vigilant, for not only is this food imbued with universal life, it is also imbued with our words, feelings and thoughts. People who eat in an agitated state, in a bad mood, or while criticizing others, infuse the food with poisonous particles, and in eating them, they poison themselves. So thought also has a part to play during meals. It is through thought that we can introduce elements of light and eternity into our food."[3]

The exact same ingredients that are prepared by two different people in two different moods will end up as two different food products and consequently have different effects on people eating the food. I prepared a main dish according to the printed recipe of a a well known "cookbook" for the author and after tasting the dish she asked me what my secret ingredient was! The "secret" ingredient was love!

Continued words of wisdom regarding the way we eat our food and how that affects digestion.
"When you eat, you should make the habit of chewing food for a while so that the salivary glands have time to do their work, for saliva contains various chemical substances that participate in digestion. Their action can be compared to a kind of cooking that makes the assimilation of food easier. So, if we masticate food until it liquefies, only a small amount of waste is left over, and we benefit from a lot of energies, even by eating a little." - Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov[2]

"Just as animals have to eat to survive, human beings must eat too, but they should not content themselves with eating like an animal, in other words without consciousness."[1]
This "Thought for the day" may not at first appear to be about "nutrition" (certainly not according to the conventional notions of what nutrition is) however every culture has traditions that at least include saying "grace" before eating the meal and these meal time prayers hint at the shift in consciousness that is required to gain the full benefit from the food that we eat.
There are some cultural or at least family traditions where eating is largely done in silence and therefore it is possible that studies could be done on the health benefits of eating in silence versus eating while doing other things, including talking.
