Drug War Violence - law
Police will often refuse to get involved in assault cases if the assault had anything to do with illegal drugs.

What is the message behind that [unspoken] policy? - It seems to me that it means that drug addicts will have to take matters into their own hands - they would have to punish, seek revenge, and recover their property themselves!!
And that means there will be more violence on the streets and in your neighborhood.
On the other hand, there could be more to it, such as the fact that witnesses, or even the victims, might not show up in court for fear that they will be implicated as "illegal drug users or dealers".
So just remember that if you have to report an assault then dont mention the drugs if drugs or drug money was involved - and then you might see justice done!!
Another angle is to consider the small time dealer who only has a handful of "clients" - none of them are young people and all of them were addicts before they started buying from this dealer - and there is never any violence or even arguments.
Then one day some punk comes around and breaks into the dealer's home while the dealer is away. When the dealer comes home and confronts the punk, the punk assaults the dealer... the dealer defends himself. Eventually the dealer overpowers the punk and hauls him down to the police station to have him charged with unlawful entry and assault.
Police refuse to charge the punk because the punk stated that he broke into the place to find drugs.
Well what the bleep does it matter if the punk was after food, or CDs, or illegal drugs, or for that matter, legal drugs? The CRIMES were unlawful entry and assault and attempted theft.
Just a thought for today as people lay dying on the floors and streets due to the insane War on Drugs.
