Japanese Whale Eaters; Kellogs drops Phelps
Phelps pot not drunk driving, Kelloggs boycott.
Japanese whale eating science VS Sea Shepard.

Two stories for the "cool people" to protest over are in the news now:
- the Japanese whaling ships being pursued by the Sea Shepard [Captain Paul Watson] in protest over the killing of Minke and Fin Whales;
- Kellogg's dropping Michael Phelps endorsements for smoking pot, and the call for a boycott of Kelloggs.
Kelloggs/Phelps first:
Wouldn't it be cool if the sales of Kelloggs' products went down so much that they had to reinstate Phelps' endorsements? That could happen if enough people boycott Kelloggs for dropping Phelps for smoking pot. On the other hand, I have not bought a Kelloggs product for about 15 years now, since all they make is garbage disguised as real food ; their processed sugar-dense chewable consumptives are perfect storms for diabetis and heart disease.
The other catch, as I mentioned in a previous post to this blog, is that Phelps comitted a truly disgusting act as a DRUNK DRIVER a few years ago. How insane that there is an uproar over smoking pot, and just a whipser for drunk driving!! Arrrrgggg.
I want to see the end of pot prohibition, and the end of sanctions againsts athletes who smoke pot, but much more action taken to stop drunk driving [I was run over by a drunk driver, and it really made a mess of the rest of my life].

Japanese Whale Killers:
I am disgusted at the Japanese who eat whale meat, and the Japanese government for licensing the whaling fleet, and of course at the whalers themselves. They are taking 900 Minke Whales, and 50 fin Whales again this year from the Antarctic seas. The Sea Shepared protest ship is doing all it can to stop the Japanese whalers. Only two other nations still hunt whales.
I really hate "lies for profits", and the Japanese whalers and government are still claiming that the 900 whales they kill are for "scientific research"!! Oh ya, as if.
The truth is that all that whale meat ends up on the dinner plates of Japanese restaurants, and no science is done at all. It is a big money maker, thats all it is.
I will admit that Minke Whales are not endangered - estimate range from 100,000 to 400,000 of them swimming the oceans; Minke Whales are the only whale species that are NOT endangered, and that is simply because they were not hunted as much as other whale species [they are the smallest of whales].
Fin Whales, on the other hand, are the 2nd largest whale, the 2nd largest living mammal in fact, and they are a threatened species. It is inexcusable to kill even one Fin Whale.
Whales are an amazing life-form no matter what species they are. They have highly developed social structures and language. Times are hard for whales now, and getting harder due to changing conditions of the oceans. A world without whales would be a much-diminished place, and things are definately headed in that direction. So, a big shout-out to the Sea Shepard for harrassing the Japanese Whale hunters!!
Threats to whales include the toxic oceans that are causing whales to die of cancers and other diseases; those gigantic swirls of plastic that whales swim through and die from as it clogs their intestinal tract; and ya, whale hunters, still, at this late stage.
-----------
So there we are, something besides the economy to shout about. Phelps is a jerk for drunk driving, not for smoking pot, and the boycott of Kelloggs will only work for people who still eat that crap or feed it to their own children. Whales are too few and too wonderfull to be harpooning and dragging until drowned, and then eaten for scientific research.
