UNIFICATIONing - a progress goal
Instead of branches of science and the trades and medicine, we are moving towards unification of each disipline.

Okay, here is a simple suggestion - UNIFICATION.
Its a good thing. One of the goals. We are moving towards it... and not just in the theory of relativity, but in all areas of human endeavor.
------------------
But why are we fractured in the first place?
An example from history are the stone masons who carved the stone, along with the mortar makers, or the woodworkers, or the scaffolders, even the architects - each of the types of workers who built the grand cathedrals in Europe in the middle ages. They would keep the knowledge of their trades a strict secret, only passed on to apprentices who were sworn to not only keep those secrets but allways work in those trades and no other.
The reason, of course, was to have some leverage when getting paid, and job security - if each worker knew all the various jobs that needed doing then the authorities could just let some of them go as they pleased, or to hire only the workers the boss wanted on the job such as from his family or friends, but this way the work would stop if any particular trade did not have it's master tradesman there, and he would leave unless all of his apprentices were kept on. It was a brotherhood that kept them all working for a decent wage.
An example in the modern world is the way our higher-education system works. We have many branches of science, partly because there is just too much knowledge to have to learn unless it was broken down into biology, physics, chemistry, etc. , and as they progressed beyond a Bachelor degree there are further specialisations, more and more as the knowledge increases - molecular biology, bio-chemistry, etc.. However, what is happening is that gaining a complete understanding of how systems of nature works requires UNIFICATION.
There is also the example of quantum physics, working to prove or disprove Einstein's Theory of Relativity, they are searching for a "UNIFYING THEORY" of the universe - "a theory of everything" - and to do that they are basically drawing all the fractured branches of physics together, and all the theories of quantum physics together, to achieve Unification [although I admit that some theories may have to be discarded].
And there is medicine, and law, and the arts and so on - each has their little branches and specialities.
-------------
SO - Is it possible to unify them all, and what happens when we get unified everywhere with everything?
If all the tradesmen knew all the techniques of building everything, and all the scientists knew all the science, and all doctors knew all the medicine, we would have a lot of lunatic professionals out there, most of whom never made it out of school!!
So it won't be done that way.
We can do it, but the goal is to simplify the world, to boil it down so that:
* one doctor can cure all the diseases, maybe with one treatment ;
* one technique to erect whatever shape of building of whatever size we want ;
* one way to study nature and the universe from macro to micro that encompasses
physics, chemistry, and biology ;
* musicians who know classical, rock, and jazz will provide the music and maybe all
the arts is unifying now with visual art, sound, and drama coming together in
various ways such as rock operas and rock videos and maybe someday an interactive
rock festival where the audience creates drama as the music plays to the cues of
visual artists and writers, or maybe one person does all those things.
* the energy that we use might all be one unified form, perhaps electrical, or
something we have yet to think of.
* ... more examples? ...suggestions from anyone? [this is a huge task].
Unification means an end to the competitive nature of success, an idea whose time has been good for us but that is now causing problems because there are too many who are ABLE but not enough postitions to put their talents to good use.
It means an end to the constant growth that has been a hallmark of our economy and our population and our territory - all things that are now running out because they are finite and growth is infinite.
Resources are strained, and much is being lost as we speak, so we have to move into another realm, we have to make a shift, we have to start to cooperate, to unify.
Nations cannot continue to stand up for themselves in a global economy, it can only come to a clash of interests - there is much fear of having the wrong kind of world government, but there is little doubt that we need some mechanism to conduct global affairs - another UNIFICATION in progress!!
In any case, the idea of UNIFICATION is a good conversation starter if your next gathering is getting boring... how about a "UNIFICATION DINNER PARTY" ? The symbolism is allready there...
