The Michelangelo Effect
It's inside the isn't-it's, isn't it?

I heard somewhere that the great artist Michelangelo was questioned about how he created the masterpiece sculpture of David. The story goes his response was that David had been in the marble the whole time, and was revealed by the artist by simply and methodically chipping away all the pieces of rock that weren’t a part of David.
Whether this tale is based in historical truth is unimportant; it speaks to me as a course for action.
Identifying elements in my life that DON’T belong in my aspired life, and chipping them away. What I spend my time on, the people I relate to, and especially material things I have attached to my being.
The more I can identify as *not* fitting into my strivings, the more I can lighten my load by eliminating these unwanted burdens.
And move closer to the wonders within.
I suspect in this personal clarifying process, I am not only the laboring artist, but also the entombed masterwork. For now, I just mostly see a massive lump of stone.
Hope springs eternal…
