Empty Nest Syndrome
On the day when work crews are scheduled here,
the Orange Blossoms are opening on the tree
and the baby Hummingbirds are gone.

It is the calm before the storm.
Workers are coming to tree our largest tree
that is digging into the side of the garage.
The thought crossed my mind. Let the tree grow.
Cut into the garage, but the fates are not leaning that way.
I was writing this morning when there was a knock on the door.
I had other things in mind.
I would like to have one more Little Breakthrough with the
Work Fund Record Keeping, but I was taken away from that Focus.
i checked the Hummingbird nest.
On Monday, while I was peering close with my camera,
the Little Bird of the Two Babies flew the nest.
The Sibling flew about twenty feet over to the Camellia.
The Mother Hummingbird zoomed as a SuperWoman
to check it out. I caught that scene in a photo.
The Little Bird sat all day long.
I thought maybe it had left home too soon.
It just sat there all day, near a flower,
kinda looking around.
It was a sunny day.
I kept wondering.
What it fly back?
The other sibling seemed to grow by
leaps and bounds during the next 24 hours.
It filled the whole space.
There it sat another 48 hours.
Today is Wednesday. It is gone.
The nest seems beaten down, the edges
worn. I saw the bird who stayed standing
on the edge. The edge was now worn down.
I went over to take some photos of the empty nest.
I went over twice.
All through the past weeks, every time I came close
the Mother Hummingbird would be heard swirling near
my head.
The second time, just now, I wished I lived in a Fairy Tale.
I was wanting that Mother to swirl and be in the presence
of the other Little Ones.
Do Mother and Hummingbird offspring stay in touch?
Does the Instinct to Mother end when the nest is empty?
These children, how different will they be
be that they had a human visitor every number of days
watching and peering through a lens?
IT is 11:15 AM now.
I am the one with Empty Nest Syndrome.
It would be great if I could settle down and do the
record keeping. I am more suited to watching
Hummingbirds through my camera.
