Stage 5: Returning to Food
Returning digestion to normal
Date: 10/16/2007 7:55:32 AM ( 17 y ) ... viewed 2217 times Day 1 of Stage 5 (Work)
Salt water flush: 8 bms. The last of this series.
Orange Juice: 3 8-ounce cups, sipped throughout the day. Very little hunger today.
Lemonaide: 1 cup. Compared to the oj, the molasses version didn't taste good at all.
Symptoms: The coating has returned to my tongue. Otherwise, there are none.
Detox: Detox foot pads. 6 glasses of water. LOTS of sleep! 8,839 steps.
Weight: 49.7 kg, 24.9% BF
Comments:
Now, I wish I had taken before and after pictures, and measurements of various parts of my body. I've lost more than a pant size - my "skinny" pants are loose, too. I feel good!
Day 2 (Work)
BMs: 1
Orange Juice: 3 8-ounce cups. Very little hunger today.
Vegetable soup broth: Carrots, potatoes, cabbage, red onions, spices, kombu, brown rice, barley, adzuki beans, and brown lentils. Just before putting it in my thermos, I tasted a spoonful and added miso paste, soya sauce, and wakame. I started with the liquid early in the afternoon and had a few of the vegetables (no grains or beans) in the evening, plus most of the wakame. To my surprise, I had a bm within an hour, producing about 12" of mucoid plaque (chopped up looking; it had been moving around on Days 3, 7, 12, and 17 but it wouldn't come out). That bm was accompanied by the "peeled" feeling in the large ascending colon area, followed by a strong sense of intestinal relief, and a surge of energy shortly after. The soup was delicious, and I intend to make this soup often in the winter!
Symptoms: The coating has returned to my tongue. Otherwise, there are none.
Detox: Detox foot pads. 3 glasses of water (I completely forgot). LOTS of sleep! 20,519 steps.
Comments:
BMs are not supposed to start for 4 days, but mine started on the 2nd day. I think the reason is that I didn't use a laxative tea, and towards the end I didn't use the magnesium oxide, either. I'm guessing that the continuous use of a laxative makes the colon "lazy," and it usually doesn't get activated until it is full. In my case, a very small amount of well-cooked vegetables set it in motion. I also think the large amount (1/4 cup) of wakame might have helped. It has a lot of chlorophil, which often activates the urge.
My stomach gurgled a little more today, accompanied by some gas, after I drank the soup. The juice didn't seem to have this effect. I still wasn't hungry, but I had to control the greedy urge to drink ALL of the soup, including the cup or so of vegetables, grains, beans, and lentils. I think miso paste added to vegetable broth is a great combination, needing little in the way of spices. I highly recommend adding wakame or any seaweed of your choice to your soup.
I felt a little stronger after drinking the soup.
Day 3 (Work)
BMs: 3
Orange Juice: 2 glasses. Moments of hunger today.
Food: Orange juice and soup, as above. This time, I added some raw cabbage and yam to the soup, but I should have added more miso paste and wakame.
Symptoms: The coating was a little thick and there was some mucus at the back of my throat. This diminished during the day. But, for the first time in my life that I can remember, the sides of my tongue were smooth, showing that the intestines, at this point, were clean. Otherwise, there was nothing of note.
Detox: 16,501 steps, 8 glasses of water, lots of sleep.
Supplements: Probiotics (2 caps) and enzymes at night.
Weight: 49.8 kg, 24.7% BF.
Comments:
I might have overtaxed myself with my enthusiastic late night walk. However, I was still strong enough to climb stairs without feeling like fainting, I just had weakness in the legs. The smooth tongue was a big surprise, something I hoped to see in about a year of further detoxing. THE MC WAS SUCCESSFUL!
Day 4 (Weekend)
BMs: 5
Orange Juice: None so far. Still not much hunger today.
Food: I'm posting this before the day is done, to record things before I forget. I planned to consume orange juice, raw fruit and vegetables today, along with more (fresh!) soup. But I lost control in the convenience store and ate some roasted chicken, a bad food I've been addicted to for the past 3 years or so. I had some enzymes and probiotics before leaving the house, and that is almost certainly what made it possible to eat this without being sick. It was achingly delicious! However, the note of interest is that about 30 minutes later I became surprisingly weak and had difficulty climbing the stairs to my 4th floor apartment. It seems that meat takes huge amounts of energy to digest, energy that I have in low reserves right now. I'll be sure to add lots of beans and lentils to get protein through vegetable sources later in the day. I might also add a tablespoon of sesame oil to a salad dressing to reintroduce healthy fats to my diet.
Symptoms: Tongue coating has become thin again, almost absent. Unfortunately, the ridges have returned to my tongue again on the sides - indentations where the tongue rests against the teeth. Oh well! I noticed a smooth tongue for one day - I might have had it longer, but just noticed this day - and the ridges are new, so that was very good news. Toxins being freed into the system and appearing on my tongue (and no doubt being flushed away), and then my system seeming to become relatively free seems to be a recurring part of Stage 4 and Stage 5.
Detox:
Weight: 49.5 kg, 24.5% BF. Changes still show up 2 days later.
Comments:
I had no idea that so much of the body's energy is absorbed in the digestion of meat. Of course, I realize that this is partly due to the lack of digestive power after a long fast. Once I recover, I hope to experiment with plant-based proteins: beans and lentils. I will try them cooked for now, and sprouted later in the week.
One thing I've learned from the MC is that it is possible, with some stubbornness, to desist from meat for a long period of time, although I have type O blood and really miss it when I eat other things. Before the MC, I've tried to reduce the craving by eating tofu or consuming healthy fats, and they do help, but the craving for meat is always there. The only semi-meat which really makes the need vanish is raw egg yolks, which I use in Tsetsi's egg/lime/lemon mini-flush. During the entire time I do this, I don't crave meat. Fish will do! Some people are not natural vegetarians, and I believe I am one who must always be an omnivore to stay healthy. But today's experiment was a real eye opener!
I haven't done much in the way of detoxing in Stage 5, and intend to do more tonight. Despite that, it seems that the toxin exits are clearer than before the MC, and so I do have some hours or even days when my "toxin thermometer" (tongue) is clear, a new sight. My tongue has been coated white for so long that I thought it was normal. I can't remember when it was completely clear of white debris/toxins - not in my whole life. I remember noticing the white coating when I was a child, maybe around 9 or 10 years old. Also, I've had ridges on the side of my tongue as long as I can remember, even after a very thorough 3-month long intestinal cleansing with P&B shakes. I'm guessing both were due to bad food combining and eating processed food. My mother did her best to feed us healthy food, but she didn't know what I have learned from CZ and books recommended on CZ.
I've started eating organic food in the last 18 months or so, and that has helped, but my addiction to spicy roasted chicken and occasional forays to McDonalds or similar restaurants have had their toll. I think that is why my tongue showed signs of intestinal distress (white coated and ridged tongue) even when I was eating a lot of organic food.
Stage 5 Overall Comment:
I know that stage 5 should last about 1/3 the time of the fast, for best results. In this case, it should take about 7 days. I intend to continue drinking juice in the morning (today was an exception), eating mostly raw fruit and vegetables, and gradually adding healthy fats and a little meat over the next few days. My strength and energy are back, but reserves are still low, so I will gradually add exercise as the reserves increase. The first to increase will be walking, while the weather is still good.
I have worked hard to keep from regaining the weight, and am trying to replace more fat with new muscle mass while maintaining my weight. So far, I've been successful. The next week or so might be a struggle, before I can get my modified lifestyle into place. I will be lucky to maintain my weight as I gradually increase my food intake. I read somewhere that increasing food by about 500 calories a day post-MC until you reach your normal levels is a good way to speed up metabolism. I don't really count calories, but I will try to translate that into a rough equivalent of food. The main thing is to eat things which help to detox on a daily basis.
Total Weight/Body Fat changes:
Start: 57.0 kg, 29.5% BF.
End of Stage 5: 49.5 kg, 24.5% BF
