Stage 4: Days 16 - 22
Going the extra week: Is it worth it?
Date: 10/9/2007 6:52:12 AM ( 17 y ) ... viewed 2299 times Day 16 (Work)
Salt Water Flush - 9 BMs
7 Glasses Lemon/Maple Syrup/Cayenne
Symptoms: Heavily coated white tongue, some mucus in throat in the morning, very dry skin on my face and chin (that has been building for days), otherwise no toxin symptoms.
Tea: Peppermint tea, banaba tea (kidneys) and Eupatorium odoratum (lungs) in the morning.
Detox Methods: 8 glasses water, dry skin brushing, detox bath, detox foot pads, magnesium oxide 1,500 mg, walking 5,733 steps.
Weight: 51.6 kg, 26.3% BF.
Comments: I seem to still be on a plateau, as far as weight loss is concerned. Except for the white coating on my tongue and the mucus in my throat, I don't seem to be experiencing any toxin overload symptoms. It seems that weight loss and toxin symptoms are connected. My strength, vitality and positive mood seem to have returned.
Day 17 (Work)
Salt Water Flush - 10 BMs
6 Glasses Lemon/Maple Syrup/Cayenne
Symptoms: Heavily coated white tongue changing to medium coated tongue during the course of the day, some mucus in throat in the morning and evening, dry cotton morning mouth, my facial skin seemed to respond to 4 glasses of water in the morning, otherwise no toxin symptoms. In the evening, felt energetic and strong.
Tea: Peppermint tea, banaba tea (kidneys) and Eupatorium odoratum (lungs) in the morning.
Detox Methods: 9 glasses water, dry skin brushing, detox foot pads, walking 9,726 steps.
Weight: 51.0 kg, 26.6% BF.
Comments:
I felt normal today. The mix of teas probably activated my digestive system, because for the first time in a long time I felt persistently hungry. Although the banaba tea and eupatorium odoratum tea are outside the protocol, they have no calories, and they have been helpful with dealing with backpain (kidneys) and sore lungs.
The very dry skin on my face was so extreme that it looked like "old lady skin," and I wondered if my collagen levels had fallen below an acceptable level for my body. However, I drank 4 glasses of water an hour after the salt water flush and before my first lemon drink, and my skin relaxed and became pliant again. Hm! I think it was an issue of dehydration rather than lack of collagen. Other posters have noted dry skin on their hands (my hands are ok) and perhaps they were also suffering from dehydration. I guess I'll drink more water!
Day 18 (Work)
Salt Water Flush - 5 BMs
5 Glasses Lemon/Maple Syrup/Cayenne
Symptoms: Cotton mouth in the morning and very dry skin on my face and chin.
Tea: None.
Detox Methods: 9 glasses water, dry skin brushing, detox bath, detox foot pads, magnesium oxide 1,500 mg, walking 10,171 steps.
Weight: 50.9 kg, 25.5% BF.
Comments:
Moments of strength and energy alternated with moments of weakness in the legs all day. I was in a good mood all day. I'd say the detoxing is still going on, with a few hours of rest or rebuilding of sorts going on. If I had exercised this week, I would have lost lots more weight. Also, more sweating detoxing methods would have helped reduce toxins and fat through sweat. You can always replace lost water by drinking fresh water. Hm! Notes for future MCs and the end of this one.
Day 19 (Weekend)
Salt Water Flush - 7 BMs
7 Glasses Lemon/Maple Syrup or molasses/Cayenne
Symptoms: Dry skin on my hands but the skin on my face is still pliant. White coating on tongue is thin and can be partially removed. Last night's detoxing was helpful.
Tea: None.
Detox Methods: 10 glasses water, walking 4,810 steps.
Weight: 50.7 kg, 25.4% BF.
Comments:
Plans to add exercise to my daily routine were brought to a halt by the appearance of The Cardinal (lol). Until today, I had thought this time it would be light - it started out that way - but no, it promises to be as usual. It will be ending just as I end this fast, so with the weight loss that accompanies it's end, I will be ending this fast on a high note. Probably TMI for most people, but this blog is mainly for me and to help me in future MCs.
I finally ran out of maple syrup, so switched to molasses and plan to continue the MC until the molasses are used up - I guess about 3 or 4 days from now. That should take me a little way into the mental and emotional aspect of the MC, which may be noticable on or about Day 20.
Also, I live in Japan, where politeness replaces Godliness, and the lack of which can precipitate your demise. I was offered a coffee for the 3rd week in a row by a friend, who always forgets that I am not drinking coffee at this time FOR A REASON. This time, I relented, and drank it black, chasing each sip with 2 or 3 sips of water. This was my only real cheat for this fast. The coffee hit me like a ton of bricks, and I REALLY do NOT recommend it to anyone. First, my liver became warm. I'm guessing that suddenly having coffee in my system awakened the liver in a hurry. Next, I felt an energy rush, like a buildup of static electricity, shooting up from my spine out through the top of my head. I felt like I could run home (a 2-hour walk). I felt some shifting going on in the liver, and my stomach gurgled and churned a bit. Finally, as I went home about an hour later (cautiously, by bus), I felt like a large stone (probably true) was jammed into the center of my liver, under the ribs on the right side, well in from the entrance of the main hepatic duct. For the rest of the evening while I was awake, I felt waves of high energy followed by waves of near fainting, and felt dizzy and mildly nauseous every time I stood up, no matter how slowly I stood up. The after effects of half a cup of black coffee were alarming, to say the least. DO NOT DRINK COFFEE WHILE ON THE MC FAST! YOU WILL REGRET IT!
If someone persistently "forgets" that you are on the MC, maybe now is a good time to stay away from them. It is NOT polite if a friend or relative tries to derail your special diet - it is an indication that they think they know more about what's good for you than you do. Put bluntly, they think you are a fool, at least about this. Do NOT let them social pressure you into making a mistake. If they are going to be emotionally manipulative, and you feel guilty or rude for refusing them, then just avoid them. Where you go, what you do, and what you consume is your choice. Do NOT let someone else pre-empt that choice! In the case of my friend, she is a busy doctor (who loves to hear about my health adventures and is generally supportive), and I think she genuinely forgot. However, some people only "pretend" to forget, and others do not really accept your own assessment of your needs. These people are often your family (who never see you as a "grown-up") and friends (who cannot see you in any other way than how they met you; first impressions can become lasting and finally limiting impressions, as far as other people are concerned.)
People are uncomfortable with change, even change for the better. They are more comfortable with stability, even unhealthy stability. They cannot accept changes in others. Change implies betrayal.
Hm! Maybe that emotional/mental cleansing which is supposed to start on or about the 20th day has started!
Day 20 (Weekend)
Salt Water Flush - 20 BMs
7 Glasses Lemon/Molasses/Cayenne
Symptoms: Pink tongue by evening. Stomach a little upset. All other symptoms are gone.
Tea: None.
Detox Methods: Detox bath (morning), detox foot pads, 10,730 steps, 10 glasses water.
Weight: 50.7 kg, 25.4% BF.
Comments:
It's confirmed: Molasses give you diarrhea, and can make your stomach growly.
I seem to have rid my body of all the toxins it wants to remove at this time - my tongue has become pink. My state of mind is even and positive, even though my work place is going through a crisis. However, my sense of claustraphobia seems to be heightened. That is, when people are trying to be helpful but they are also being clingy, it makes me more tense than usual.
Day 21 (Work)
Salt Water Flush - 12 BMs
7 Glasses Lemon/Molasses/Cayenne
Symptoms: Stomach a little upset. All other symptoms are gone, and tongue is pink.
Tea: Eupatorium odoratum (lungs).
Detox Methods: Dry skin brushing, detox bath, detox foot pads, 8,932 steps, 8 glasses water.
Weight: 50.4 kg, 25.4% BF.
Comments:
All of yesterday's bathroom activities have made sitting down a painful prospect. I still have an unsettled stomach, but I must say, the molasses seems to be clearing out more gut garbage (can't think of a better way to describe it). While I like the maple syrup version and never mind drinking it, I have to force myself to drink the molasses version. I can see why Burroughs says molasses is the lesser of the two options. I don't think I can handle the molasses much longer, and am considering stopping tomorrow. I might try for one more day, I will see how I feel in the morning.
The funny thing is, I thought I would be daydreaming about how I would end this fast. I thought I would be imagining feasting on vegetable soup, vegetables, a little protein, perhaps a little animal protein, and then going to my favourite organic buffet for a major sampling (not a pigfest, my system wouldn't be able to handle it yet). I'm only thinking about it now, as I write this blog, and these seem to be new thoughts. I find that I don't really care about food. I notice how much I'm NOT spending, and that's a relief with my work situation up in the air, thousands of miles from home.
I had planned to get into some light exercising, but my body is not ready for even this yet. I feel strong, but the moment I'm faced with a slope or stairs, I discover that I'm not as strong as I feel. Aside from that, at this moment, I feel great, far better than in Stage 1.
Regardless of my decision tomorrow, I feel that the extra week IS worth it. I'm glad I waited until my tongue lost it's white furry sticky noxious coating. My breath is better than it's been in years. I don't seem to have any distinctive body odor, and my sweat smells less than it has in the past. None of these improvements had appeared a week ago. I feel like I've done about as much as I can at this point.
Day 22 (Work)
Salt Water Flush - 10 BMs
5 Glasses Lemon/Molasses/Cayenne
Symptoms: All symptoms are gone. I am a little hungry!
Tea: None.
Detox Methods: Dry skin brushing, detox foot pads, 12,008 steps, 8 glasses water.
Weight: 50.2 kg, 25.1% BF.
Comments:
This is the last day of the MC this time. It was uneventful, except for the huge surge of energy towards the end of the day. If I didn't have to get up early for my morning salt water flush, I could have easily walked over 20,000 steps. I feel great! It was definitely worth going the extra week. Of course, there are more toxins to get out, and I've entered that stage where good days (pink tongue etc) are followed by detox days (white tongue and other symptoms). I am a living, metabolizing human, so I will never be completely free of toxins, but I think I've gotten rid of quite a lot of old, long-standing debris.
Improvements from my health state before the MC: The tiny red spider webs have largely receded, although they have done that before and come back. My weight is down to a comfortable level. My tongue is finally pink, after years of being white. I wouldn't say that any major maladies were dealt with, but I have experienced improvements and am happy with the results.
Notes for next time: Use only maple syrup, drink more water, maintain a more healthy exercise level, and get more sleep.
I will post my final weight in the morning, and then report on total weight loss and body fat loss.
-6.8 kg (-15 pounds), -4.4% BF
