March 9 Checking In 18 y
from the HMO to downtown, with a nice visit to the herbal apothecary afterward
A new realization concerning walking: I’m going to switch to walking for a specific amount of time each day rather than taking the pedometer with me everywhere. This pedometer thing is just not working for me. When I got up over 3 miles or more I then thought that walking any less than that would not be enough, which served to *briefly* shut down my walking. I do not want to get into any measurement system that shuts down my enthusiasm about walking.
I went to a class last week at my Acupuncturist’s office by a nutrition advisor. She spoke of daily exercise in terms of the amount o ... read more

round and round and round a neo-Victorian community
I walked this morning. Getting back into walking has been a challenge, given this series of events that has come into my life lately with medical issues and dealing with all of this within the allopathic managed care realm. I still do all my natural stuff, too, and that’s helping. It’s the alternative health approaches that really give me hope, honestly.
I’m starting to feel more like myself lately, and that’s a welcome change.
My walk this morning involved looking at houses for sale. There’s a pleasant little town several miles east of where I live, and there are some nice neo-V ... read more
Surgery 18 y
tomorrow
It is important to me to let you know why I haven’t been walking or blogging as much lately. My thoughts are on a surgical procedure I’m having done tomorrow (Monday February 20) morning. It’s an outpatient surgery, but I haven’t had any sort of surgery in many years, and still it’s got me feeling a bit uptight.
Is uptight the right word? As far as I remember the meaning of uptight, I’m thinking it is.
Tense. Trying to relax. Haven’t felt like walking.
I did treat myself to a very nice Acutonics session yesterday. That was helpful in balancing my energy and getting my chi fl ... read more

happenstance on a frigid snowpacked night creates a splendid morning walk opportunity the next day
What luck! I got another chance to do lots of walking, unexpectedly, during my workweek.
There was a deep-unplowed-snow-on-the-road-blowing-snow-low-visibility issue on Wednesday night and although I left for my night job 2 hours before the time I’m required to be there, a car traveling in another lane on the road slipped, swerved around, and hit me practically head-on. The driver spoke little English, and when I asked if he had insurance he didn’t really answer, but I pretty much assumed he did not.
I called the local police on my cell phone and they said they were on ”accident al ... read more

The Springer Spaniel
Again, something quite unexpected happened that resulted in an opportunity to take quite a walk today.
I decided to do a trial run at adopting a dog. Ultimately I decided not to keep the dog as I was apparently allergic to him. However I did take him with me to Boulder after work on Thursday.
He was a 6 yr. old Springer Spaniel and full of energy. I decided to stop by a lake on the way to my house and take him for a walk. We walked and ran beside the lake and he loved seeing the geese there. He had been living in an asphalt-and-cement type urban area for much of his life and loo ... read more

thank heavens for an unexpected opportunity to walk today!
Unexpectedly, a walking opportunity came up in the early afternoon. Well, I know this is a Morning Walk blog, but since I have not been on as many of my treasured walks lately as I had hoped, I would like to share this early afternoon walk with you.
My car is in the shop for today. Awesome chance to do some practical walking!
Walking from my house to my VIBE Machine studio/office was a 1.3 mile brief pleasant walk.
The weather today is unusually clear and warm for February in Colorado. Perfect for all forms of outdoor activity. The first part of my journey was from my street t ... read more

everyday walking, and a bright, sunny future
Just checking in, really. I want to say that I have been using my pedometer to see how far I walk during my regular weekday activities. I often walk miles during an average work-shift. That surprised me. I wouldn’t have known it.
I thought my job was primarily sedentary.
I guess not. I like to get stuff done, and I stay busy getting ahead so that on the days when we’re really busy I’ll have all the grunt work like stocking all caught up. So those days when I do stockwork and run errands for the clients I get in a lot of walking.
I’ve also been practicing parking farther from ... read more

a 4.5 mile winding walk in an urban convention center
Saturday January 28th is the day I resumed walking. Oh, I walked plenty between last weekend and this, but mostly my walking was at work or at the store, which as we all know doesn’t exactly count.
Actually, my Saturday walk took place both indoors and outdoors. I did have my trusty pedometer with me, and it said I walked 4 and 1/2 miles total. That amazed me, as it did not seem to me like I had actually walked that far.
I went with a friend to the World Wellness Weekend in Denver. We parked a few blocks from the Convention Center. That was the beginning of the walking. Since a ... read more
Walking on Sunday 18 y
wandering energetically in my home neighborhood
Oh, how I love Sundays. When I wake up Sunday morning I still have approximately 36 hours of freedom before my work week starts again. Yet it seems like I’ve experienced an entire relaxing weekend already. It’s those 3-day weekends. They’re great. Plus I don’t work a 9-5 shift as many people do.
So, awakening with a sense of gratefulness is how my day began. Immediately, I thought about where I would be walking this morning. I decided on my own neighborhood. Why not?

walking in industrial area, thinking about bad politicians
It was so nice to be able to resume walking on my *blessed* first real entire day off. Eating food came first, then errands, then giving my son a ride.
That’s where the spontaneous idea for a walk in new territory presented itself to me. So I walked in the area by the shops where my son is a consultant while he was busy doing his consultations, which usually take an hour or so.
Again, it’s another semi-industrial area, without sidewalks, and with oodles of unpredictable traffic coming in and out of the driveways, but if one is careful, it’s as good a place to walk as any.
There ... read more

discipline, vibr8, discipline!
This week has hurried by so quickly, memories of it are like a half-dreamed dream.
At least on a conscious physical level, I explain it to myself by observing that I returned to my fulltime job after two glorious weeks off. The energy of being back at work caused a change in my inspiration to walk. It was a bit like trying to row a paper boat against the flow of a fast-running river.
So I’m a smart gal: therefore I realize something must change. The walking was benefitting me greatly just in the few days that I was doing it. I felt great, just like I feel great whenever I do the ... read more

viewing mountains
Honesty is an important part of this walking blog. I did not make a commitment to walk every day, but had hoped to do so.
I did not go for a walk this morning. After a lovely 2 week vacation from my job, I started back to work yesterday night. Then today I felt drained. Looking in the mirror I could see a ghost. So pale and lifeless after one day back on the job.
I was so sure I could transcend it, whatever it is that happens to me once I start going to my workplace again. I don’t even completely dislike my job. There are some aspects of it that I like and some I’m grateful fo ... read more
MLK Jr. Day Walk 18 y
Monday January 16
For the holiday I took a different kind of walk. A march! First there was a rally with many speakers, in front of the County Courthouse, mostly high school and middle school students reciting poems and speeches. Many different drummers drummed at the edges of the various interconnected events.
Each time I attend these yearly events I learn more about Dr. King. I find myself wishing he had lived longer. He accomplished so much in his lifetime-cut-short.
So many others have dedicated themselves to carrying on his work. I appreciate so much what they are accomplishing.
So we list ... read more

"main street"
Today I walked around on what many consider to be our ”main street” although it’s not called Main Street. Part of it was bricked in many years ago to create a pedestrian mall. It’s an entertaining and vitality-filled place to walk and observe.
First stop was the coop grocery store, to get information about a presentation this afternoon. Next I walked along trying to be in the present moment and yet remembering good times from years long past at my old friend Deradune’s row house (she lives in another state now) just a stone’s throw from the site of the coop. Not that I don’t have go ... read more

walking around an industrial neighborhood, and a studio complex
Morning walks included a walk around the complex where my studio is located, and another walk by the recycling center in the industrial section of town.
After a very pleasant rice milk chai drink, I set out on the walk to occupy myself while my son was busy at the recycling center. The sight of huge stacks of computers, and all their hardware lying in big crates in the warehouse amazes me. Some of them look newer than the computers where I work. In fact, most of them do. They’re recycling the thick packing styrofoam now, which is great. Some big blocks of that. Dodging a few massi ... read more

first walk
As I was driving toward the starting point for my first walk I thought about today being Friday the 13th. Doesn’t mean much to me. It was merely a thought passing through. Auspicious beginnings can happen any day. And today is that day for me.
Morning walk #1 was relatively brief, and split into two parts. The first part consisted of going outside of a small shopping center to explore an underpass and a nature trail along a creek just behind it. I walked along a row of junipers held in by a massive rock abutment toward the underpass.
When I reached the underpass, I could see t ... read more
Intention 18 y
Vast bright horizons arrange themselves in my path
In the beginning a clarity of intention is essential.
Years ago; lifetimes ago it seems--I used to go walking and often hiking in the hills and mountains near and far, often.
As the years slipped by that became as often as possible, then rarely, and then....for a long time now ..... never.
Sure, I do walk. From house to car, from car to job site, from job site to car, from car to grocery store, you know the drill.
And of course I walk a lot from place to place, and even up and down the stairs, inside my house, and when I visit friends and family.
The everyday routine walkin ... read more
