Wildman Barefoot Buddha 19 y
Wildman Buddha and Jesus the Christ walked Barefoot! Barefoot Mick and Sunshine Sam of the Barefoot Academy share their philosophy of re-connecting to the Earth through the soles of our feet.
Mick writes:
"We have done a great deal of research on shoes and the damage that they do to our walk and the effect that this damage has on our talk, and story making.
I am becoming more educated in some of the spiritual writings of our species. I was reading some of the words of the wild man Buddha, who was never a Buddhist, but a man that had walked out of confinement, the comfort zone, in his barefeet and was taught by the trees.
I was interested in his four steps, or what people now call the four noble truths.
As I read them, I realized that in my story I h ... read more

TAKE ECO-ACTION NOW!! Help save Gray Whales, Protect Endangered Species, Advocate for Indigenous Communities, Protect Forests, National Parks and Critical Habitat, and Protect Farm Workers from Toxic Pesticides!!
Dear CureZone family: I am a member of several environmental advocacy organizations and receive many urgent eco-action alerts. Instead of posting them one at a time, I will be summarizing 3 to 4 eco-actions in 2 to 3 sentences each, and include links for you to find out more information and to take action. Usually these actions involve petition-signing or sending e-mails to government officials or industry executives, and don’t require a lot of time or effort. Occasionally I will include an action that involves fundraising for a specific cause; if this is the case I will identify it a ... read more

The Ivory-billed Woodpecker was one of the first species listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act of 1973. Long feared extinct, the bird clung to life in habitat protected in hopes of its recovery, and just last month the conservation community was rewarded with confirmed evidence of the bird’s survival in the forested swamps of Arkansas.

Deer Animal Totem 19 y
The deer is my teacher. If we follow the ways of the forest creatures, and all creatures of the Earth, we my learn true connection with the Mother.
In one of my earlier blogs today, I wrote that as I walked ball-to-heel, instead of heel-to-ball as is the way most of us walk, I felt like a deer walking--very delicate, balanced, and coordinated. I wrote to my friend Barefoot Mick and asked him about it.
Mick responded that he had just come back from a "bare foot run up to the water falls", and as he entered the state that some call the runners high, he had these words of wisdom to share with me:
"A deer crossed the path in front of me, and I began to chase and track it. I find that in following the paths of ... read more
Earth Shoes 19 y
Re-connecting with the Earth through the soles of Our Feet. Mick and Sam say "Make your own Earth Shoes" for walking in toxic environments.
Barefoot Mick and Sunshine Sam of the Barefoot Academy walk barefoot in all terrains --forest as well as city--no matter what the weather.
I live in a suburb, where most everything has been paved over. I am very reluctant to walk barefoot in places like stores, on asphalt, etc. because I can not stand the thought of the toxic floor cleaning solutions and oil film touching the souls of my feet. Even the thought of walking barefoot in the park makes my stomach queasy because of the pesticides and herbicides that are sprayed on the grass.
Where I live, I only feel comfortable wa ... read more
Walking Like a Deer 19 y
I Walked on Barefeet Ball-to-Heel, and felt myself walking like a deer. Take the "Barefoot walking test" and see how you walk!
In my last blog, "Wildman Barefoot Buddha", I posted an e-mail outlining the philosophy of Mick and Sam of the Barefoot Academy.
When I first read it, I cried all the way through it. I read it a second time and cried again. I did the "walking test" Mick recommended--the one where you plug your ears and walk barefoot on a hard surface. If you hear a loud noise when you walk, you’re walking heel-to-ball, a form of walking that most of us do but is a dis-connect from the Mother Earth. When I walked, I stomped--yep, very loud stomping.
I tried to walk ball-to- ... read more

Mother Earth heard my intentions to start a backyard compost pile, and started one for me, naturally!

Friday late afternoon I was doing a little clean-up in the side yard where I keep all of my empty clay pots. I saw an old plastic ”Welcome” mat lying upside down on the concrete. I lifted it up, ready to rinse it off and find a place of use for it, when I saw underneath it a small, flattened, pile of old potting soil, the plastic bag it had come in long since thrown away. ”Oh, wow, look at this nice soil! Perfect!”, I thought, as I wanted to pot a small bit of jade plant that had gott ... read more
CALIFORNIANS: Toxins Action Alert! 19 y
ACTION ALERT: Calling all Californians to contact your State Senator and Assemblyman in support of 5 bills to help curb and monitor toxic chemicals in home products and children's toys!
Dear California Residents:
The California Legislature is considering five bills THIS WEEK that concern the safety of chemicals frequently used in products and manufacturing:
SB 600 Bio-Monitoring: Would create a statewide program to test volunteers for potentially toxic chemicals in their bodies. People and neighborhood groups could be notified if high levels are detected. Bio-monitoring is a way to identify which synthetic chemicals used in common products and homes raise the most concern and warrant the most intensive investigation. by Sen. Deborah Ortiz (D-Sacramento)

Mother Earth Poems 19 y
After reading long-island's comment, "Mother earth is a living breathing cell that needs to be cared for by all of us," I am inspired to post two poems I wrote in 2002 about Adamah (Hebrew for "Mother Earth") as a Living BEing:
ADAMAH IS AILING
Adamah is ailing Her air fouled with gases Her waters clogged and darkened with debris Her soil saturated with poisons Her seas thick with crude oil Adamah is ailing wracked by fever, chills, and fear, I put my arms around Her, and weep
Liora Leah

Adamah is starving for Universal acceptance into the community of planet-beings She is kept shackled by our indifference to Her want and need to thrive and grow Our energy consciousness places bonds of ignorance, hate, and fear upon Her flesh, keeping Her restrained, locked, shut away ... read more
Re-Connecting with Earth 19 y
Opening Up Our Feminine Earth Chakras Through Re-Connection with the Earth
When we re-connect with the Earth, we are opening up our 3 lower chakras--root (base of spine/genitalia), belly, and solar plexus. These are the chakras that deal with feminine energy--Earth energy, Gaia energy, Divine Feminine or Mother-God energy. The throat, third eye--just inbetween the eyebrows, and the crown or top-of-the-head chakra are masculine-energy chakras, connecting us with Father-God energy. The energies of masculine/feminine meet and blend in the 4th or heart chakra. We in Western societies usually have our energies connected, if they are connected at all, with Father-energ ... read more
Barefoot Story 19 y
In my last blog, I wrote about meeting Mick and Sam, the barefoot couple from the Olympic Mountains of Washington State. The following is a story of my first experience of walking barefoot on Mother Earth.
In February, two days after meeting Mick and Sam, I took a walk at the local Nature Center. Deciding to go barefoot, I found that the trails were muddy and slick; it took a lot of effort to not slip and fall. I had to be aware of the terrain, and tried to avoid stepping on twigs that I found painful to my tender feet, or step in any coyote "offerings". As I walked along, paying close attention to the trail in front of me, I suddenly felt "short" ( I’m 5’ 1’, already short as it is, thank you very much)--there’s no other way to describe it. I’ve often felt "short&qu ... read more
Earth Heals Pain 19 y
Lessons learned from Barefoot Mick and Sunshine Sam of the Barefoot Academy: Walking Barefoot on Mother Earth is Healing My Foot and Back Pain via Re-Connection to the Earth
In my lower back, I have a slightly compressed disc that, on occasion, “slips”, causing nerve pain and muscle spasms. This condition is aggravated whenever I sit too long without getting up and stretching, as in driving the car for hours or sitting at the computer. The condition is helped greatly if I keep up with a regular walking program. I usually walk 2 to 3 miles at a time, 3 to 4 times a week; it is generally the only form of exercise I get. I had been rather tired in the past month, and let my walking go for a couple of weeks. This contributed to my back “going out ... read more
Blog Makeover 19 y
New blog name, new focus: "In Our Own Homes" has become "Mother Earth Heals"
I’ve decided to change the name of my blog from ”In Our Own Homes” to this one, ”Mother Earth Heals”. In my old blog, I was going to focus mostly on environmental action and how we can use non-toxic products in our homes to safeguard our own health and that of the environment. Quite frankly, I found my own blog rather boring. If I’m bored, who the heck else is going to read it?
After experiencing a healing two days ago, I’ve decided to include more personal stories as well, stories that tell of my own personal connection to the Earth and how that connection is helping me to heal in body ... read more
Products Cause Bad Air 19 y
Ordinary household products that people use daily are dangerous to our health and the health of the environment, contributing to smog and indoor air pollution.
I was inspired to write about toxins in ordinary personal care and household products after I read a series of articles published by the Los Angeles Times in March 2003.
One article ("Chemicals in Home a Big Smog Source", Sunday, March 9, 2003, Gary Polakovic, Times staff writer) stated that "ordinary household products such as cleaners, cosmetics, and paints are now the Southland’s (California’s) second-leading source of air pollution, after auto tailpipe emissions...smog forming chemicals escape with every squirt of antiperspirant, each bubble of detergent and e ... read more
