Earth Shoes
Re-connecting with the Earth through the soles of Our Feet. Mick and Sam say "Make your own Earth Shoes" for walking in toxic environments.

I live in a suburb, where most everything has been paved over. I am very reluctant to walk barefoot in places like stores, on asphalt, etc. because I can not stand the thought of the toxic floor cleaning solutions and oil film touching the souls of my feet. Even the thought of walking barefoot in the park makes my stomach queasy because of the pesticides and herbicides that are sprayed on the grass.
Where I live, I only feel comfortable walking barefoot in my own home and yard or at the nature center I wrote about because I know that I am safe from chemical toxins. I am thinking that I'd like to get a pair of hand-made mocassins with only deer skin soles (no rubberized bottoms) so I can walk around outside my home but still feel the ground with my feet. I wrote and asked Mick and Sam what they thought of this.
Mick wrote back, saying: "We have done a great deal of exploring on how to enter the city barefoot, and like a sticker in the path, we step around or over it. However there are those times that one has to walk through such areas. So we wear socks, or moccasins or a very thin sandal that we make. The thing to remember is that you need to practice and find your natural walk, ball-to-heel, and practice this and develop it until it becomes your normal walk. Your normal walk (heel-to-ball) is now being held in place from the growing of neural roots in "flower pots", (shoes). Your body posture is holding this old way of walking and talking. So wearing of a moccasin, or sock allows you to continue the awakening of your genetic memory, or body wisdom. So explore sister, find a foot wear that supports your feet. The best way to do the feet for protective shoes, is make your own. You can take a pair of socks and sew leather on the bottom.
Sam and I are working on hemp foot wear, and other plant materials.
Also, you would love the bead work that can be done with mocs. Sam is part Blackfoot, and has evolved some wonderful work.
Love,
Mick and Sam"
