- Part 2 - "Selling Out": two real people examples by Karlin 18 y

I guess I am on a theme today, and it brings me around to the Selling Out term again. And Again. Like the problems of the world seem to revolve around this idea... because it really all does start with us and our choices. Our choices are often being heavily influenced, I am not saying it is our fault. The corporate/power elite forces are manipulating us - because they need us, but not as we are, they need us to sell out.
So here is the two people I saw on the news today, and got a very different "story" than the one the media presented!!
----------------#1:Sam Sullivan
Sam Sullivan - buys heroin for a young woman addict who was on the streets, so she would not have to work as a prostitute. For 6 weeks!! This story made today's news, and he defneded his actions well, not backing down or apoligising at all. Most politicians would distance themselves from that kind of thing, which is another form of "selling out".
Sam didn't sell out and become a normal kind of politician, he stands up for his past and for everything he believes in. And got elected too, but only because Vancouver is a progressive city and Sam has a lot of love/supporters behind him.
------------------#2 - Catrina le May Doan :
Catrina le May Doan, former Olympic hero for Canada, now wears her bright smile for the corporate side, delivering their propaganda.
A person like her, with her successes in life, would have a difficult time being normal, or poor. Her athlete skill-set isn't valued by the working world, but she can adapt to create a space for herself by doing public interface, promotion, and yes spreading their propaganda.
The space she found is promoting workplace safety for the WBC - her message is their message: "how workplace low back injuries are best taken care of by getting active", and where those inuries "will heal themselves in 2 to 6 weeks".
Thats her job, to promote that message. Not one word about the fact that only 20% of low back injuries fit that healing timeframe and approach, not one word about the many injured workers who are dealing with severe pain but are not collecting any more WCB since the 6 week period ended. Injured workers, and those with chronic conditions who try to go to work, are left out in the cold once they go thru the WCB process [welfare disability will refuse them too, since the WCB doctors said that they have healed from their inuries/pains. I know this from personal exp.]
So this is a perfect example of how people will sell out. Especially people who are mainstream and successfull, with an ego or status to preserve, are the most eaily turned.
And these examples show that your selling out HARMS and HURTS other people along the way, and that sticking to your morality like Sam did just might help people or at least give them a chance.
The damage to the one selling out is no small matter either - "those who have some status to maintain" is key. They become enslaved to that status, they will and do commit crimes and sins to try to preserve that status.
From the corporate side of selling out, they find that it works out well to GIVE people some status even before they earn it, and let the ball start rolling from there... most people will pick it up and go with it and not even realising they are selling out. GIVE people something , and they will sell out to protect it. [no examples yet - got one? feel free to reply with it]
"Selling Out" is a lost term, forgotten by the public because major media stopped using it. It was made to sound silly. I had forgot it until the internet put me back into contact with you cool people and all that intellectual material available on the internet.
But forgot or not, Selling Out it is as real now as in the 1960s. Selling out means to abandon your principles and do what some corporate or other power asks of you. It means acting in ways that are not moral, or that are unfair, damaging and destructive, but happen to be good for the corporation. And sure, good for you too, in some material way.
Jobs like drilling for crude oil, instead of putting your efforts into alternative fuels, are one example - it all starts somewhere, and the next generation of weapons makers or crude oil drillers has to come from somewhere, and thats you and me right now and the job choices we make. Will you "sell out" and take the corporate job, or will you struggle to do something good for the earth? Thats how change starts...
---------
Anyhow, I thought this fits with the first post in this thread. I hope you got something out of it.
