I cannot speak for the massage but, any intervention can yield discomfort and/or pain. The technique can make the difference.

Varying schools of thought. The "straightening" of the neck can result from muscle splinting following trauma. "Calcium deposits" could develop sometime down the road from damage to the joint but that takes some time and will not develop overnight.

I cannot speak for massage but, the apparent trauma would appear to lie with the neck. Therefore, attending to the immediate concern (that being the neck and surrounding structures) may be the best suited option...first. It never hurts to strengthen any traumatized area but there is a time and a place and for now it would appear they need rest.

Perfectly normal under the circumstances. The muscles may be working overtime in a protective state. Giving them a rest for a while and wearing a soft collar could facilitate the rest needed. Carrying the weight of the head while injured can be quite taxing to the musculature.

Heat always provides a sense of comfort and well being and to some degree temporary muscle relaxation. Direct ice application for short repetitive durations provides reduction of inflammation which is actually a productive process.

There is no correlation. Trauma can be a life-altering experience but, one that can also be surmountable; given appropriate time and proper care.
