How much longer?
Despite the existence of many successful cataract reversal eyedrops since 1960, including one which reverses the condition within 2 to 3 weeks, the eye profession continues to profess ignorance of their existence.
The lack of nonsurgical options today has been purely contrived.

Do We Have A Choice?
There were a dozen or so successful cataract reversal eyedrops
developed since 1960, backed by solid research. Most had demonstrated safety and effectiveness in vitro, and one has done so in human clinical trials.
The researchers who made these discoveries were chemists, biochemists and biophysicists from world-renowned universities. Interestingly, ophthalmologists were hardly ever involved in the development of these eyedrops. The result is that surgery is the only option we have to deal with cataract today.
In one Internet forum, when somebody else complained about the current situation, a cataract surgeon replied, "No one is forcing you to have cataract surgery". No? Well, if all the other alternative treatments were never implemented, and we refuse surgery, then what other choice do we have? Partial or total blindness?
If that isn't equivalent to "forcing us to have surgery" - then I don't know what is!

Most cataract patients like myself would have some useful vision left. When the sun is out, I can't see much. It's just a yellow mist. At night, I can hardly see anything outside, so I don't go out. Car headlights are just a glare, streetlamps have halos. And I can't see well inside at night under electric lighting. But in the daytime, in a partially lit room, I can still see objects, although cloudy. I want to say, when there is some useful vision left, and when ways of improving the remaining vision existed in the past, it seems such a waste to completely destroy the natural lens in cataract surgery, and replace it by a plastic implant foreign to the eye.
For example, if someone was limping and nonsurgical means existed to improve joint or leg function so that he could walk without a limp again, would a doctor amputate that leg and replace it by a wooden or plastic leg? No? Then why replace the natural lens by a plastic one if the natural lens can be saved. It seems such a waste. Once restored, the natural lens will always outperform an IOL, not to mention the risks of surgery.

There is a long list of reasons for poor eye health and surgery does not "correct" 1 of those past problems.
that said, amazingly many people even in their 90's have amazing results today. Many wore glasses much of their life and after surgery, no more glasses.
The same applies to so many problems---like Hernia, people that wait until their belly rips from the belly button to the spine (it happens); it is all about "prevention". The best of medical after the fact, seek to ad more time, by way of surgeries of which many today are being done by robots.
People do not want to know or hear the endless list of reasons "why", no more than they want to be told to eat or drink or live....and thanks to health insurances, socialism there are ample surgeons that can do some amazing work with the eyes---but beware the bad ones, it is not a surgery that can be undone.
Some of the basics of cataracts are- dirty water / well water, water loaded with rock minerals.
MILK, dairy wrong forms of calcium---inorganic calcium accumulation-
Herpes--- cataracts are a form of Herpes.
HA, the miracle of HA, first discovered in cow eyes 90 years ago---the glue that holds the human body together, especially the eyes...people that see "floaters" are seeing the HA break loose.
WHY compare Hernia with Cataracts?
SIMPLE, both are ADVANCED problems that the people allowed to happen--------both are extremely difficult to deal with naturally and odds are they are not going to attempt to self-correct and surgery is so fast and often so successful. THEY only last so long! But generally last long enough.
On the wild side---in Brazil, the is always at least 1 person that does bazaar eye surgeries with kitchen butter knife----they scrape the cataract off in a second.
Expect to get ten + good years when they install a lens. You might see better than you have for 50 years.

I'm sorry, but you miss the point. Cataract surgery should not be the only option because nonsurgical means of reversing cataract existed in the past, and others exist today. They are just not available. Therefore patients must undergo the surgery, or face progressive loss of vision ending in blindness.

Today, the sun was out and as I have advanced nuclear cataracts,
I could see very little except a mist around me. I can see people
when they come close, but I cannot see whether the traffic lights
are red or green.
Whenever I visit the eye doctor, he is not interested in improving
my condition without surgery. He has no sympathy, and in this
respect, the visits are futile. Since I knew of the existence of successful
past nonsurgical treatments, I never wanted surgery, which is why I am
in my present condition. I can see to write on a computer by using high
contrast.
Next year, new nonsurgical treatments are coming, but we should not
discuss them here as it could be counterproductive.
Proponents of cataract surgery will no doubt fight the new treatments
tooth-and-nail to force the world to rely on surgery as long as possible.
But, as the great "cantante" of Latin music Hector Lavoe said,
"Todo tiene su final", and I am sure that cataract surgery will be no
exception.

In retrospect, there is one underlying mechanism which
could explain the anecdotal evidence. Some cataracts
are due to the enzyme "calpain":

and castor oil contains undecylenic acid, which
is an inhibitor of calpain:

Nevertheless, I question whether it is safe to put castor
oil in the eyes, as it is not sterile and could cause
infection.
Also, as for NAC, this is counterproductive, because, in
the presence of metal ions, carnosine abolishes the photobleaching
action of glutathione. NAC does however improve cataracts
if a metal chelator like EDTA is further added, as it was in the eyedrop
"C-KAD" which completed Phase II clinical trials in 2009.

Since there is some anecdotal evidence that castor oil can
improve cataract, since there is a plausible mechanism of action,
and since we need to ensure that all eyedrops
are sterile, I propose that ophthalmologists and accredited
pharmacies provide cataract patients worldwide with sterile
castor oil eyedrops. Let's ask them to help us avoid the
risks of cataract surgery. Surely, they would be interested
to explore any and every possibility that we could restore
some degree of optical clarity without exposing us to the risks,
loss of natural accommodation, chance of a poor visual outcome and
possibly eventual need of further surgery.
But if they do not provide us with eyedrops guaranteed to be sterile and safe to use, we should not try this out on our own, e.g., with eyedrops purchased over the Internet, as it could lead to complete loss of vision. Therefore, we need the help of ophthalmologists and accredited pharmacies, and we need it urgently.
The problem is that so far, they have not shown any interest in exploring nonsurgical options, and that exposes patients desperate to avoid surgery to risks such as these.-

You can make far much more money by surgical procedures, than by giving people castor oil drops.
The same story is repeating for the treatment for many other diseases:
Gallstones - gallbladder surgery
Cancers -- surgical removal of the infected organs
etc..
Money talks and nobody is interested in something that costs 100000 times less .

Yes. It is a business. This is all the more frustrating because there are several new techniques that can reverse cataracts, even advanced cataracts, within a matter of weeks without surgery. They were either successful in human clinical trials, or successful in animals but not yet tested in humans. I suggest that we find ophthalmologists who would like to expedite clinical trials of nonsurgical cataract treatments so that patients no longer have to rely solely on surgery. But are there any ophthalmologists who would like to do that? We could point out that the new treatments themselves will generate new sources of revenue for health providers.

Why?
We have read that there were many ways to reverse cataract and restore vision without resorting to surgery. Firstly, the light therapy used to cure thousands of patients by Dr. William Luftig from 1930-1965 using large optical reflectors made of crystal glass, or the light therapy used by Dr. Robert Brooks-Simpkins, using his "Fixoscope" in the 1970's, and secondly, the long list of eyedrops which were developed since the 1960's up to the present day, some of which had successful clinical trials (C-KAD completed Phase II clinical trials in 2009). In addition, thirdly, countless cataracts were cleared without surgery by Dr. Stanley Evans, a nutritional optometrist who practised for many decades. Most patients would have preferred any of these options to surgery.
But we still haven't answered the question of "Why" the eye profession did not implement any of them in clinical practice, instead choosing to ignore all of them and offer invasive surgery as the sole and only option to treat cataract. I invite all Curezone readers to post their reasons as to "Why", despite the reality of proven nonsurgical options - two of which had already been practised for decades in the past - this situation has existed for almost 100 years, and continues to exist today.
