It appears that my friend "resolved" his kidney pain and is back home. It's time to party!!! As of Valentine's Day I now have a new design for "Kombucha As Medicine". How would you like to like to try a Kombucha Ice Cream Float? Imagine a whole menu of medicinal ice cream floats that each have a unique "medicinal" blend of the 6 primary tastes: Sweet, Sour, Salty, Pungent, Bitter and Astringent.
Here's one Ice cream float design:
Sweet - The sweet cream in the ice cream, a remaining trace of Organic Cane Sugar in the Kombucha plus all raw honey in the all raw ice cream!
Sour - Seasonal berries on top of the float
Salty - a pinch of Celtic Sea Salt mixed into the Kombucha
Pungent - the tea and a splash of ginger brew
Bitter - a splash of Beet Kvass
Astringent - Pomegranate flavored Kombucha

May 25, 2015 - Kombucha during pregnancy.
In my most recent nutritional consultation session I introduced a mother-to-be to Nourishing Traditions and the wise traditional dietary principals for pregnant women. Kombucha was mentioned several times in our conversation and the following underscores what I had shared.
"If you’ve been a regular kombucha drinker, keep drinking it! Kombucha has a lot of benefits for the pregnant mother:
It increases energy levels.
It helps bowel movements be regular.
It detoxifies the body.
It helps you maximize nutrient absorption because it’s probiotic.
All those are good things! Pregnant ladies often suffer from lack of energy, and this will give you an energy boost without resorting to caffeine[1] or sugar. Pregnant women also frequently struggle with constipation during pregnancy, and this can help you be more regular. Everyone knows that pregnancy increases mucus production, and this can make battling normal colds or allergies difficult. Kombucha can help cleanse and detox your body safely so you can ward off potential illnesses. And, of course, pregnant women are creating a new little life inside them, so they need to be able to use all the nutrients from their (hopefully) nutrient dense foods".:

This past day in my conversation with an herbalist friend we talked about kombucha as medicine and the general idea of developing herbal formulas for medicinal kombucha.

A Surprise Experiment!
I've been making kombucha continuously over the last eight + years and before that another several years. However it doesn't take much if any experience in K production to determine when a batch hasn't "brewed". I discovered one of these "duds" recently and since I was running low on my stock of my favorite ferment I reactivated the recalcitrant gallon and ended up saving the three and a half quarts! I concluded that the problem was the water. I had lost my "bearings" on our in-home filtration system after the nozzle for the pure water was broken off. Consequently I mistook the remaining hose as the discharge and the actual discharge as the pure filtered water. Fortunately I recovered my bearings without polluting my body. I consider it to be a surprise experiment that verified for me the importance of having the purist water for kombucha production.
