Health Begins In The Gut!
A nutrient-dense diet is the best support for the gut-health connection.

If so then there is a long list of real health practitoners who agree and who have built both their health and their health practice of this premise. I believe that Weston A. Price is to be included among these "real health" practitioners as well as Bernard Jensen and many more.
If you have this kind of health foundation then I am sincerely happy for you! If not and if you want the "birthright" of good health then I highly recommend two books: Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston A. Price and Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. Weston A. Price completely documents the foundational importance of a nutrient-dense diet for real health and contrasts that with mankind's modern diseases that manifest when this foundation is foresaken for modern "foods of commerce".
However, if you are not already on or intending to head in the direction of that road to health then I wish you the very best in the event that you struggle with health issues. In that case there are a number of natural remedy systems to consider among which include herbology.
Long time herbal resoures include "Back to Eden" by Jethro Kloss:

Here's a "tidbit" that I recently found very interesting!:
"... oat straw can help regulate digestion and loosen hard stool. You’ll need probiotics for this too.":

"The Many Roles of the Intestinal Tract -
The digestive system in humans ... performs several critical functions including:
Serving as a home for beneficial bacteria ...
It has been said that up to 60-70% of your immune system function comes from these bacteria. Consider that they:
Line your intestinal tract, thus preventing invading pathogens from gaining a foothold.
Actually identify, attack, and destroy many invading pathogens.
Produce a number of nutrients and biochemicals that boost your immune system such as B vitamins, lactoferrin, and Transfer Factor.":

This subject matter inspired me to look into whether Weston A. Price had anything to say about intestinal cleansing. I did started a search and so far haven't found anything directly linking the two. It seems to me that the need for intestinal cleansing is primarily due the dietary habits of people who rely upon food that is manufactured as products. The long list of the problems of manufactured food include improper processes the industry uses on food ingredients, i.e. the turning of grains into flakes, flour and other grain products without first germinating the grain and thereby neutralizing the anti-nutrient elements inherent in grains as part of the plants defense system.
Jon also says: "A normal bowel movement is soft and unformed."
I never heard that before! My former Weston A. Price Chapter co-leader taught the "Tao of Pooh" based on a different concept of "normal". I now welcome Jon's perspective as a liberation from the notion of a "perfect form" that I've seen advocated over the decades!
Jon continues:
"... digestive disorders ... were responsible for over 50 million physician visits back in 1985--and more hospitalizations than any other category of medical problem ... and almost double that today. The total cost to the American public for all aspects of digestive disease is well over $100 billion per year. The most prevalent digestive diseases include:
Constipation and the attendant symptoms of self-toxification
Diverticular disease (herniations of the colon)
Polyps
Hemorrhoids
Irritable bowel syndrome
Ulcerative colitis
Crohn's disease
Colorectal cancer
It is worth noting that many other diseases that at first glance appear to have no connection with the digestive tract have actually been related by many doctors to functional bowel disorder. These include diabetes, gallstones and kidney stones, gout, hypertension, varicose veins, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and obesity."
