And, if you don’t see your child, because of some complication, arrange to be nearby, regularly...for however long it takes.
...NOT as a big dramatic gesture...but as a steady and trustworthy friend.
YOU don’t require forgiveness, attention, loyalty, or any of those other emotional complications...you simply are there to provide what the child, or young adult, needs, wants, enjoys...in order to mature beautifully.
Yes, steady and trustworthy would do it, I believe.
