Wish I had an appropriate suggestion but can only think of 2 things... 1) My sister had a stroke not too long ago and it may have been because of her age (she was not yet 60 when it happened) or the degree of the stroke or whatever... however she seemed to have improved fairly quickly. I also meant to mention water aerobics. I get great relief and pyhsical freedom in the water. It allows the spine to open up since there is little gravity in the water. You just use a weight belt to keep you afloat and having your legs dangle and float in the water is such a relief from the pressure on the spine. Have you tried prednisone? It’s a steroid anti-inflamatory that can bring down the inflamation. i have severe low back pain associated with a bulging disc and degenerative disc disease (I’m only 27!) with pain running down both legs and I gained incredible relief from prednisone. I had to take 60 mg a day for effective relief. It’s not a great drug to be on for extended periods of time. It can effect your bones in a negative way and the skin also. I’ve found thet high velocity manipulations, as used by Chiropractors and many Osteopaths, are often ineffective (and sometimes detrimental) in the circumstances you describe. I’m really happy you were able to get it on him and it’s working. The pain will continue to ease up until it is gone but it really is important that he tuff it out and wear it when he is sleeping. I have the same problem with being overweight and it digging into me so I make it really big (if I hold it against my back I can fit my fist into the front)and this seems to help. Well, I’ve finally gotten the nessissary materials and I’ve made one up for my son. According to him, the coil does indeed work, to an extent. It takes a way some of the pain so he can now actually move around and shift possitions on his bed. I’m very glad to hear that. I’m very sorry, but I have just a few more concerns to discuss. I have finally found a place that has #10 solid copper wire available (I had to drive two and a half hours in order to find it) However, the wire itself is rather thick and difficult to bend. Of those I have tried I have found that the #10 is what works. I have also had a hard time finding it without the insulation but you can buy regular electrical wire called 10-2 w/ground. You will have to take off the outer casing but there is a bare piece inside you can use. You can take the out casing off with a box cutter or a razor blade. You can just go to a hardware store and ask for 10 2 with ground and they will cut it for you. I also wanted to suggest to you that you make one up for yourself. The copper coil should be worn especially at night. The background radiation is worse at night so he should be protected during that time. He should wear the coil all the time until he can go for awhile without any pain. Thank you all. I’ve gotten him to start drinking more liquid, and I’ve made sure to get him some healthy foods. I just wanted to add that if your son is in too much pain that he can’t wear it around his waist you can lay it on his back, next to his skin, but be sure that it is made up as if it were attached around his waist (the rubber piece on it and in a circle with the rubber band holding it closed). The important thing is that the copper is absorbing the background radiation and setting up a oscillating circuit and protecting him so his body can repair itself. Oh, I’m sorry. I should have been more specific with his condition. He has a large disc herniation and sciatica in the L4-L5 lumbar region. The pain is in his lower back, left buttock and travels straight down the left leg all the way to his toes. The pain seems to be debilitating and crippling, as he can barely move anymore. Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately, my son can’t seem to do any stretches or excersises because the pain prevents him from moving in such a way. He’s tried several different excersises, but since the pain is so intense, he can’t go through the motions properly. I am not sure if this will help, but I have a lot of sciatic pain as well & have been going to different chiropractors to see what will help me. Stretching the hamstrings on the effected side slowly until it pulls, hold it for a couple of minutes and then relax. Best thing that helped me is lying on the floor on my back with my husband stretching the hamstring/leg upwards. I am not very good at being regular at excercising, but I try to keep up with it.
