Composite fillings almost never last more than ten years whereas gold ones can last a lifetime so if you are 30 years old , you will ultimately have more tooth structure left at 55 if you get gold , whereas if you get composite , your filling will be replaced with a larger one in seven years , then a crown then a root canal etc.
If you are concerned with saving tooth structure, why do you reccomend crowns? An onlay is no different than a crown except that the dentist only removes enough tooth structure to fit the onlay .
I think biological dentists oppose gold for financial reasons. They want repeat business.
Biocompatibility tests are worthless if they indicate things like toluene ,phenol formaldehyde are biocompatible when in reality they are toxic to everyone.
