Hi Drofinnah,

I think you made quite a few good points. I think it is totally natural and honest to want a) recognition for something that one is proud of b) betterment of oneself c) protection of oneself d) good things for oneself. We live on the material plain and its not just a "luxury" to feed the ego. It is actually key to survival. If one does not get recognition for what one has done, how are they going to get .. say... a promotion? If one always debases oneself and pretends that they have nothing important to offer, that would be a sheer lie and that lie is also rooted in "ego" ( to make oneself look "holy" by not wanting to appear as if one is "bragging" and thus "egotistical"). I actually think that it takes great courage to communicate to people that you have a certain skill ( this is a capitalistic society and it operates on utilizing specific skills and it would be totally self defeating and idiotic to go around pretending that one didn't need to "market oneself" in order to get ahead. Those that have humility will humble themselves by taking the risk of appearing to be "egotistical" when, in reality, all they are doing is working hard in order to survive and get ahead in life.

However, I really do agree that there is a fine line between serving oneself ( in a respectful manner) and crossing a line where what one does to serve oneself is done to the ruination of other people's ability to live their lives with dignity.

A good example would be environmental degradation of people's lands etc. in order to benefit the few with ( usually) ZERO recompense ( or the recompense is so pitifully small that it is the same as a slap in the face... or even worse, destruction of their entire livelihood, domain etc. )

Well, the examples are multitudinous.

I think, however, that I will focus right now on how to serve myself while serving others. This is a good thing to focus on.. why not? Since you mentioned the former, it is a good time to think about the latter.

keep posting droffinah:)
