Re: Female circumcision: The good, the bad and the ugly?

What are you attempting to argue?

The arguments for female circumcision and male circumcision are much the same.

Routine male circumcision is practised only in one major Western country -- the US -- where it takes the form of skinning the penis of infants, removing approximately 50% of the skin, leading to the glans becoming toughened and keratinized. Canada has now stopped the practice on a routine basis.

Routine female circumcision takes many forms, the more extreme forms involving excision of some of the external genitals and infibulation (a sewing up of the remains of the labia so that where once there was a slit where the labia met there is now a neat, smooth area with a small opening for urine and menstrual blood and which will require to be opened further for intercourse. Routine female circumcision is generally disapproved of in the US.

In most parts of the world the routine circumcision of both males and females is regarded with a considerable amount of horror.
