Could it have been drugs?

I remember the 1976 Olympics and the East Germans won a lot of medals. Very small country. Years later it came out that many of the East Germans were using drugs and were stripped of their medals. Is it possible that there was no drug testing in 1936 and lots were in use? Tweet
