Re: --answer--people stop smoking and gain weight-Edit--
Hi amberlynn72,
Your post:
That is not the best explanation at all ...I quit smoking 3 yrs ago and i am sorry but i am not retaining fluids... my fat dramatically increased... I went from 20% bodyfat to now 33% bodyfat and the fat in and of itself is VERY HARD to get rid of...I have done numerous fasts etc etc..and have never been able to reduce my body fat more than 25% ...Nicotine and whatever else in there is a stimulant.. Nicotine is actually a good substance to help lose weight in its pure form. Read this article on how nicotine effects your weight.

..Getting rid of the excess fat of a smoker is about as hard as getting rid of the fat after childbirth.
Answer: What do "YOU" think "FAT" is, anyway ?
One may be overweight because of an imbalance of the Sodium to Potassium ratios, thus allowing of too much Retention of body Fluids !
Or one may be overweight because of Fatty Acids, which may be because the body does not have enough of the needed Alkaline Minerals, thus it becomes too Acidic, which means a storage of Fatty Acids, which is too much "FAT" !
And this may also happen to a person who has stopped smoking, because the Potassium in Tobacco is Alkaline, which helps Neutralize some Excess Acids, and when stopping smoking, if one does not supply the body the needed Alkaline Minerals may allow the body to become too Acidic, thus storing more Fatty Acids !
One may make all kinds of Excusses all day long, but they do not change the Facts of "WHY" this is so !
Edit: And if the person who was smoking and now stops would start supplying their body with extra Calcium, then they may not develop overweight problems !
Smile Tis your choice.
